Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This Chilean Cab has an earthy, rustic nose full of dark berries, leather and sage. The palate shows the blackberry up front and leaves an herbal trail along the lengthy finish. The tannins are firm, but not raspy and the acidity is vibrant enough to promote plenty of lip-smacking. Fans of Napa Cabs may not be wowed by this one, but if you like the Cabs of Paso Robles, you may find a friend in this bottle. — 3 days ago

CULT Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Bought for $40.00, normally $125.00 and still $125.00 winery direct. They’ve gone the way of a paper label & shorter cork. But for 1/3 the price I’ll take the miner changes. Medium body compared to older vintages. If I paid release I would be disappointed but for $40.00 its definitely worthwhile K&L notes, Beau Vigne's heralded, rising star winemaker Julien Fayard, originally from France, has worked in esteemed cellars such as Lafite-Rothschild and Smith-Haut-Lafitte on his way to becoming Philippe Melka's Director of Winemaking for many iconic wineries across Napa Valley. The 2018 "Cult" Cab is Beau Vigne's estate fruit from a high elevation vineyard 1,400 feet up on Atlas Peak and another closer to the Silverado Trail.

Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult is a blend of both of the estate vineyards: Stags Ridge and Soda Canyon, with 15% blended from Rutherford and Oakville. It was aged in 100% new oak.

Point Barre Arbois Pupillin Ploussard 2013

Lucky to try the trousseau and ploussard one after the other. Very different wines the the trousseau light on this feet and this one needing a bit of time in a carafe to show a mix of red berries and spice. Tons of funk than needed to blow off as well. — 5 days ago

Vino Rosso

Our host sort of snuck this into the mix, without fan-fair, during an evening of very lovely wines. Apparently a VdT without a clear and obvious vintage statement. This was Exhibit A for proof that great wines don’t need a vintage date when the juice is this good. Beautiful ruby color with a dark core. Everything on the nose and the palate were in the right place and this immediately took me back to my experiences in Toscano where I drank “generic” jug wine at a random trattoria that was made by the family and I wanted for nothing. Las Gundiñas Lomas de Valtuille Bierzo Mencia 2014

Deep ruby in the glass, this delivers aromas of pure, ripe strawberries, dusty cherries, crushed river rocks, and a slight, sour kombucha thing that is really appealing. On the palate the flavors are expansive with a distinct wet sidewalk note and a mix of ripe and underripe fruits together with barely-there oak - it’s delicately powerful. Mellowed tannins and crisp acidity lead to a very long finish. Stinkin’ good juice. — 9 days ago
