A lot of wood, vanilla and leather on the nose, with notes of black cherry preserves and musty book binding interspersed within. Color reflects only hints of the age with mostly cherry red depth with hints of orange to the edges of the medium to full body. Palate is leaner than you’d expect, right a lot of acid and energy still cooled after a 3hr decant. The cherry fruit seems to come forth first, with some slate like chalky minerality pushed forth between still-slightly grippy tannin. The flavor pushes further into leather, cedar wood, VERY dark butter chocolate, pickled root vegetables and a tingling, slightly tarry like flavor that persists to the end. Incredible value and man does it deliver, ESPECIALLY with food. — 3 days ago

PnP. Dark red color with purple tones. Black and blue fruit on the nose with cedar and oak as well as subtle vanilla. Rustic and Bordeaux-like on the palate. Chewy wine with great depth and a long finish. Wine Spectator nailed this rec! Awesome QPR and super good. Debating between 94-95. — 7 months ago

Thought this was a really unique Rioja. Deep Rick ruby with a smokey burnt caramel aroma. On the bud, stewed dark cherries, pepper, and pomegranate that is smooth and a long finish. Nice tannins in the mouth. Great price for a gran reserva from a famous Rioja winery. — 3 years ago

A very nice experience drinking this. Might have been a touch better 5-10 years ago around the 15-20 year mark (and was great around ‘08-‘12) but despite a disintegrated cork is still a very nice wine with a beef dish. 2011. This is the Gran Reserva. Delectable locked up last night trying to enter that… our wine of the night. My daughter said that on each bite from multiple dishes, either the wine made the food better, or the food made the wine better. So glad I finally was able to drink a bottle!
