One of these good news bad news wines. Good news? This was an awesome wine!!! Strong coarse but extremely well integrated tannins in a vibrant Syrah with cool dark red flavors upfront evolving in complex flavors of dark dry fig with earthy, forest floor, cigar box under notes. Bad news? I had to fight with Tammy over the last drop 😅. This is going to be a winery to keep an eye on in Walla Walla. Giving the big guys a run for the money. Loved it. — 5 years ago

Inky, a bit of acid. Pepper and a bit dry - pucker after a taste. I'm a big fan of Chateauneuf, but I've had better. I can't see drinking this on its own. And it will fight with any dish. You'd need something bold - spice and fat to serve it with. — 6 years ago

Absolutely stunning. This release/vintage has a lot of life left in it. I cannot wait to drink my other cellared bottle in ten years. Fresh yellow and white orchard fruits, young creamy Brie cheese, multiple layers of texture and minerality. I will literally FIGHT to continue buying upcoming vintages of Romain Guiberteau’s releases, with avid search for his small release Cabernet francs from Saumur; even Grolleaus, with fingers crossed that they will stay so affordable. Wait and see, his release prices are going to quickly climb in the coming years. — 7 years ago

Its been way too long since having this in my glass. Reductive at first, but plenty if aeration won the good fight, its black cherry and currant notes meld well with its peppery and granitic bite. Such a singular varietal especially in the hands of the master. Perhaps this had a touch more tension than I remember, this was quite wound up and almost had a serious side than previous experiences. — 7 years ago

Very Good quality wine, rustic and rowdy, but with a structured and dense backbone, tannic!? Yes! But with plenty of fruit, florals to make it alive. Somewhat wearying alcohol and without food you’re up for a good fight. Decent complexity and good length — 8 years ago

Deep purple and violet in the glass. Complex but very tight wine which took 2 hours to smooth out. Wonderful Cabernet flavours but heavy tannins indicate that it probably should be left for a few years yet. For now it's a great wine but if you're going to drink expect it to put up a fight as it would rather be sleeping. — 8 years ago

So 2020 Christmas Dinner happened...It's been quite a year, distanced from our extended family and loved ones. This year it's just my wife and the four furballs tonight, so we're drinking what we like and eating what we like; traditional meals be gone. (Already seen posts of dinner waffles, so I'm not alone in this mindset.) Tonight we're crafting some tasty enchiladas using delicious Hudson Valley ground beef and my own enchilada sauce made from all our own garden ingredients (except Cumin).

Nose has fresh cherry, under-ripe cherry, freshly sliced green pepper, cold tar, cedar shavings, crushed dark chocolate, dried roses and partially wet garden soil.
A younger Bordeaux-esque, Northern Italian nose, IMO.

Palate has freshly juiced cherry, raspberry mash, partially-dried tart cherry, black cherry jam, muddy saddle leather with medium tannins/acidity and forever finish. Decanted 6H.

If you told me this wine was 29 years old at the time we're consuming, we'd arm wrestle then fight, because there is NO WAY this wine is that old, I'd agree to ~10-15Y, but no more. An amazing bottle with easily 20+ years in front of it tonight. — 6 years ago

The 1996 Dom Perignon is a revelation at now twenty three years of age. On the nose this takes on some spectacular range from Challah bread tones to lemon zest as well as Pink Lady apple and candied ginger. Once on the attack this shows formidable weight and tension, while this seamless wine effortlessly dances across the mid-palate. Ripe Japanese pear, brioche, lemon zest and wild mushroom flavors collide with the strong salinity and minerality.
