Inky, a bit of acid. Pepper and a bit dry - pucker after a taste. I'm a big fan of Chateauneuf, but I've had better. I can't see drinking this on its own. And it will fight with any dish. You'd need something bold - spice and fat to serve it with. — 4 years ago
Its been way too long since having this in my glass. Reductive at first, but plenty if aeration won the good fight, its black cherry and currant notes meld well with its peppery and granitic bite. Such a singular varietal especially in the hands of the master. Perhaps this had a touch more tension than I remember, this was quite wound up and almost had a serious side than previous experiences. — 5 years ago
One of these good news bad news wines. Good news? This was an awesome wine!!! Strong coarse but extremely well integrated tannins in a vibrant Syrah with cool dark red flavors upfront evolving in complex flavors of dark dry fig with earthy, forest floor, cigar box under notes. Bad news? I had to fight with Tammy over the last drop 😅. This is going to be a winery to keep an eye on in Walla Walla. Giving the big guys a run for the money. Loved it. — 2 years ago
Good ass wine. I can always rely on this wine to both encourage me into and back me up in a fight. — 4 years ago
The 2014 is robust but smooth. It has fight like Donald Trump even when the outlook isn’t bright. Definitely recommend. — 4 years ago
Absolutely stunning. This release/vintage has a lot of life left in it. I cannot wait to drink my other cellared bottle in ten years. Fresh yellow and white orchard fruits, young creamy Brie cheese, multiple layers of texture and minerality. I will literally FIGHT to continue buying upcoming vintages of Romain Guiberteau’s releases, with avid search for his small release Cabernet francs from Saumur; even Grolleaus, with fingers crossed that they will stay so affordable. Wait and see, his release prices are going to quickly climb in the coming years. — 4 years ago
Barberry Garden
Tasted blind. Guessed Pinot Noir and Bourgogne. Had a very tough fight in my head regarding this one. Restrained old school style yet very young. Cherry and earth notes. Hard on tannin, good acidity. Overall elegant, stylish and sophisticated. — 2 years ago
