Château Lagrange

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

I was disappointed by the amarone before so I popped up this one to find a great reliable pour for the last evening of our guest and best friend from back home (and yours truly last evening before a day off).
What comes to mind is umami. The nose is full on cedar, cigar box, tar, black currant and soy sauce. The palate is massive, wide, grainy, silky, tannic in the rear with a grain, some chocolate and that umami, meat sauce touch that lingers for a very long moment. Bordeaux grand cru classé like you would like it to be every single time. 🥺

Foradori

Fontanasanta Vigneti delle Dolomiti Manzoni Bianco 2020

Slightly carbonic but delicious. Ripening pineapple, white stone fruit and an unfiltered appearance… My friend Elias Fernandez at Shafer loves this one as well… @Paul T- Huntington Beach @Shay A @Stanley Barrios @Shauna Summers @Jim Trobaugh @Neal Schaffer @Ian Blackburn @Warren Sapp — 2 years ago

A carbonic white wine?

@Shay A yes just a slight carbonic touch. Not champagne worthy but a little tingle on the palate…

Ah, I thought you meant carbonic via fermentation (as in carbonic maceration). Would have found that quite unique since most whites don’t go through that!

Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

A lovely bottle of classic Lafite Rothschild. Ordered with old friends and new at Waldhaus Sils on the fourth anniversary of my father’s death. He was biased to Cabernet Sauvignon / Left Bank Blends, and appreciated his Lafite, even if he stopped buying them as prices got out of hand. 1995 was chosen in honor of the year that I met my friend Julian, with whom I have worked at two companies across 20+ years and now count as a dear friend and peer in our industry. The bottle was in great shape, likely bought en primeur and stored in the Alpine retreat’s cellars (tour tomorrow!). Oscar, the manager and sommelier has been at the Waldhaus for 32 years, so it was purchased in his early days. The tannins were very well integrated, with some dark fruits, delicious tobacco and cedar, and a long finish. — a year ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Iron and blackberry right off the nose. There is airy clove and black current quality to it that seems to disappear on the tongue. It reminds me of super fine, dark chocolate. The image that comes to mind is a living oak tree— it tastes alive. Pair with pets for a Beauceron, a loyal, intelligent, devoted dog breed that is known for guarding livestock. Sit in front of a fire, drinking this wine while eating some dark chocolate. Or better yet, a hearty filet mignon that you can share with your new Beauceron best friend. — 2 years ago

Château Musar

Hochar Père & Fils Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2002

20 years old and absolutely perfect. Complex knows of every red and black fruit, some red clay and an earthy, mushroomy umami. Shared with the friend I bought it from. Well worth the wait — 3 years ago
