Clos des Chênes Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Took 3-5 hours to really get there. Dusty cherries, earth and lovely desiccated tree bark. Enveloping and so earthy and stoney. Utterly classic. So seductive. Palate is sweet and silky with nice mineral grip and the classic CDC stoniness. Elegant and nimble but lacks a bit of stuffing to be great. — 5 months ago

Nose is terrific and airy with kirsch and cassis. Airy and stoney, feral and gamey with superb herbs de provence and very clean, so precise and juicy. Long and ripe tannins. Sappy and pure and very sapid. Long and toothsome.

La Marginale Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc 2018

Love this wine and last 2-3 vintages are the best. Nose has delicate berries, hint of barnyard, herbals and wonderful minerality. Palate is a dream. So balanced, fresh and pure with red berry fruit, gorgeous minerals and incredible finesse. Lovey structure and stoney sweetness. Sappy and deep. Wonderful depth and length. Really the most elegant Marginale yet. Still needs time to open. As it opens it just levels up. More fruit and sap. 9.5 to 9.6. — 2 years ago

Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2020

OMG nose. Great terroir cannot be fucked with. It cannot. Black opulent cherries, hint of sweet wood, floral, dark, brooding. This is the EMO vineyard of Pommard. Insane and intense minerality. What mineral lift. Stunning nose. 9.7? 9.8? I don’t know. But it’s up there. Elite. Elite. Concentrated and intense but oh so young. Faboosh complexity and juiciness. Fruit is extraordinary but also needs air to show its true self. Man what a stoney Rugiens. Nose now showing kirsch. But a black kirsch. Energetic and so delineated and what insane fruit and finesse. Super complex and light as a feather but also deep, contemplative and dense. Wow. Stunning. A tick below 19. — 2 years ago
