Foucher Lebrun

Le Mont Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2020

The best wine I’ve had in a long time. Bright, light, and simply delicious. Drank it late July 2022 at the BAAG with A and IAM on their respective visits. Sparks joy. — 4 years ago

Liquid Farm

White Hill Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay 2016

Nikki & Jeff Nelson joined together with Dragonette Cellars winemaker, Brandon Sparks-Gillis, & craft 2 very different small production Chards. Blend 2 stylistically different wines, from 7 vineyards, with little intervention, minimal oak, no additives just pure expressions of Chard! White Hill is more Chablis-like of the 2; aromas of stone and tropical fruits with citrus notes. On the palate peach, pineapple and ripe apple with citrus and mineral wrapped in generous acidity. Fresh, medium+ finish ending with citrus and mineral character. — 7 years ago

Cask 23 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

I love this wine! Old world palate from the USA. Opened it an hour ago. Probably needs another two hours, but we are at Sparks in NYC. This is showing amazingly well. Incredible balance, great fruit. Soft finish. — 9 years ago

Arcadian

Stolpman Vineyard Syrah 2003

100% Syrah

Brownish, bricked, garnet. Semi transparent. Widened rim.

Superbly perfumed aromas of savory dark fruits - old leather, black pepper, dried rose petal, grilled teriyaki-marinated meat.

Not entirely completely resolved with some tannic structure lingering on. Red cherry, dried plum and blackberry. Lovely secondary characters firmly established with gamey profile, and ashy spices.

This is an absolute classic of a gem unearthed from the depth of the rather lengthy wine list at Sparks Steakhouse in Midtown East, NYC. 91.

Ahh I love seeing this and taking a trip down memory lane... The 2005' Beaucannon was pure bliss, one of the Napa Cabs that made me say "ah ha!" - I've never been able to snag another bottle - the 07' just wasn't the same. I'd be curious to try this CF! @Jeff Savigny

Glaetzer

Amon-Ra Barossa Valley Unfiltered Shiraz 2004

A mythical beast of a wine. Barely showing any signs of age; this 12 year old needs more time. Rose petals, toasty oak, and blackberry coulis on the nose. The palate is broad, and comes in waves. Black fruit, cassis, smoke, roasted beef fat, eucalyptus, bay leaf, baking spices, raspberry, blueberry jam. Teeth staining extraction. Mouth drying, textured tannins. This needs a dry aged prime ribeye. Finishes with some heat (15% abv) and green peppercorns. I haven't been to Oz in quite some time, but this sparks all the right sensory memories to remind me why it's a pleasurable place to be. Wish I had a case of this to work through over the next 2 decades. — 10 years ago

Domaine de la Janasse

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2012

What an intoxicating nose! There is strawberry and fig, there is blackberry and plum, there is garrigue and olive, there is a tiny touch of licorice too. Wow that's complex. The palate is very well made. There is a strong acid drive with a beautiful, blossoming fruit touch expanding as it goes, with blackberry and strawberry notes. There is a bit of weight and matter on the sides and a soft mouthfeel, almost like a cushion. The mid palate is a powehouse with a a nice tannins layer adding a bit of disruption on top of that cushiony mouthfeel. That continues in the finish for ever, with those fruity notes and that licorice, olive, garrigue combo that sparks joy with châteauneuf wines. You gotta love it! — 5 years ago

Little Buteo Weinviertel Grüner Veltliner 2019

Pale yellow. Meyer lemon and ocean spray on the nose with a bit of brown sugar also. Pure electricity on the palate! Hits the tongue and sparks, the best lemon bars imaginable with notes of chalk, lemon grass, and a bitterness that reminds me of chioggia beets for some reason. Has a bit of hay that comes around also. Really different grüner, but so lovely and interesting. — 5 years ago

Triple A Semplicemente Vino Bellotti Bianco Cortese

In the passenger seat when the sun is sinking and warm four o'clock light is only catching your face briefly through small spaces between tall buildings. Not thinking about much, not needing to. Feeling the rocky lurch of an old, beloved car carrying you forward. Things are easy and momentary. Apple cider, sweet orange, walnuts, lees, dried leaves, little sparks. — 9 years ago

Totally newbie question, if u dont mind, but how does one know whether or not u can age the wine longer..eesh and dus that mean one just keeps said bottle for several years before deciding to open it? 😕

Kandi no silly questions as it's not an exact science - generally look at ratings by reviewers on vintages by region but also reviews by pros on wine - if you google Figeac 02 I'm sure a few reviews will come up with the recommended drinking window as will many other wines but it varies a lot by Chateau, country, vintage etc

Mineral and Lemon pith nose. Really intense. Concentrated lemon mineral explosion on the palate. Juicy as heck on the fInish. Just sparks of the juiciness receptors. A great wine. Bought from Fass selections. — 10 years ago
