My rating is for the overall of today’s Sherry masterclass flight.

Les Vieux Clos Savennières Chenin Blanc 2011

Lovely, sherry notes with loads of oxidative lemon, lambs wool, sweet apple. On the palate, soft acid, dense yellow fruit, banana, lemon peel. Great dense finish. This is always a singular wine, and words (and numbers) never do it justice. — a day ago

Emilio Lustau

Los Arcos Medium Dry Amontillado Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino

A nice, highly drinkable Amontillado. Candied fruited, Mandarine peel and toasted nuts + a wonderful salty finish to the (slightly more than) off dry body.
Pass on the olives and salted almonds!

Fino Jarana Very Dry Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino 1896

Crisp with zippy acididity and nice flor aromas. Quite fruity with green apples and lemon peel and salty almonds.
Typically bone-dry and very nice as an aperitif but also quite good friendly. And a nice entry point to sherry for non-believers.

Antonio Barbadillo

Aged 15 Years Obispo Gascon Palo Cortado Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino

Experiments in bottle aging sherry... This has a beautiful deep amber hue. Quite saline nose, oceanic really, and the smell of tanned leather, dried apricots, seaweed, lightly roasted coffee beans and hazelnuts. Nose is a touch alcohol but mellows. Palate is also salty and mineral with dried fruit and walnuts and an emergent sweetness. More pronounced bitter finish than I remember at release (2016), but acids have calmed. These barbadillos really need food, and are great values- hard to get more concentrated elegance for the money. — 6 hours ago
