Flor Ballard Canyon Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend

The Jonata “Flor” is a damn good reason to fall back in love with Sauvignon Blanc (wish a dash of Semillon). Fresh and crisp yet lush and silky- all at the same time. And it evolves. From the nose to every bit of the palate, the “Flor” is a masterpiece. — 10 days ago

Réserve Brut Champagne Blend

Tasted over Christmas 2024. My first time trying Pol Roger, and a really great experience – this was a tick above many of the Grandes Marques and I found it to be quite refined. I suspect the dosage is fairly high, since it was so very drinkable, but no complaints from me! — a month ago

Cuvée Prestige Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2013

Exquisite. Deep dark fruit followed by mushroom, earth, and leather. Nose is earth and tar. One of the best GSM blends I have consumed. — a month ago

Heri-Hodie 1er Cru Champagne Blend

An underrated producer, in my opinion, though my first time with the Heri-Hodie cuvée.

100% Pinot meunièr; perpetual reserve in stainless since 1995; 3g/l dosage; disgorged March 2023

I’ve said it before, but meunièr can really strut its stuff via perpetual reserve/solera style. The natural fruit forward tendency of the grape with the oxidative character of the aging profile marry really well. My benchmarks for this style are Mousse Fils L’Or de Eugene and Delouvin’s Perpetual…both of those show a bit more richness and spiced cider, whereas the stainless steel here provides a brighter lift. Needed a few hours in bottle to open, lots of red apple, yellow citrus and orange zest, and cinnamon aromatically. Trending toward golden apple and pear on the palate, this has a kiss of honeyed richness on the mid-palate before the limestone mineral takes over at the finish. Tasty.
