Our host sort of snuck this into the mix, without fan-fair, during an evening of very lovely wines. Apparently a VdT without a clear and obvious vintage statement. This was Exhibit A for proof that great wines don’t need a vintage date when the juice is this good. Beautiful ruby color with a dark core. Everything on the nose and the palate were in the right place and this immediately took me back to my experiences in Toscano where I drank “generic” jug wine at a random trattoria that was made by the family and I wanted for nothing. Garnet red, very good clarity, moderate pigment extraction. Cherry, raspberry, strawberry in nose, cherry, herb and candied red fruit flavors with a hint of plum, seed tannin in finish with rounded mouthfeel and some skin astringency. Global Fusion Red Blend 2014

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a tasty one from California.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. A very pretty color.

Fruity nose with blueberries, plums, currants, light cedar, vanilla, light earth, licorice, black pepper, spices and chocolates.

Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black cherries, sweet strawberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, coffee, dark chocolates, light earth and peppercorn.

Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend. Drinking very nicely now, and will continue in the next 5 years.

This 6 year old is showing nice complexity and balance, with a very enjoyable mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, but gets more complex as it opens up. I let it decant for 2 hours.

A good quality wine. Delicious, interesting and engaging.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with meats, cheeses and light appetizers. Was really nice with the Italian salami.

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Grapes are grown in Napa County and Sonoma County.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Dark Ruby with aromas of ripe dark berry fruits, herbs and spice, aged for 20 months in French oak (75% new). On the palate black cherry and black currant flavors with oak, vanilla and earthy notes. Well balanced, fine ripe dusty tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak, espresso notes and pepper spice! Nice! Drinks well now, aging? check back in a year or so! — 3 days ago

Smells of brand new leather - like driving a new car off the lot. Cedar, clove, sour cherries and blackberries. Acidity could burn a hole in your carpet.

Vin Vieux Grande Reserve Ait Souala Red Blend 2017

2018 was a great find. Evocation of Madiran and Cahors wines, woth the presence of Tannat and Malbec grapes. Very ripe black fruits, spices and toasted notes. Nice balance. With one more year, 17 is more flexible, more homogeneous. Definitely a very good quality / price / pleasure ratio.

2018 a été une belle trouvaille. Évocation des vins de Madiran et de Cahors, avec la présence de Tannat et Malbec. Toujours beaucoup de fruits noirs très mûrs, des notes épicées et toastées, toujours un bel équilibre. Avec un an de plus, l’ensemble est plus souple, plus homogène. Définitivement un très bon rapport qualité/prix/plaisirs.

Just bananas aromas. Palate is next level refined but also has a hint of charming rusticity. Juicy and pure with velvety tannins and awesome freshness. Elite wine with structure to burn.
