Dickerson Napa Valley Zinfandel 1988

WOTN — This seems very youthful, with that awesome minty-spicy quality of the Dickerson (Napa) vineyard, more tight and structured and complex than the 1988 Old Hill, really amazing for a so-so Zinfandel vintage, kudos to Joel Peterson again!! — 5 months ago

Belloni Single Vineyard Russian River Valley Zinfandel 1994

Took at least 12-24 hours to decant and burn off some of the age. Then the nose blossomed with aged fruit, baking spice, and prunes. Coffee, stewed fruits, hints of spice, and amazing balance after 28 years. Delightful. — 4 years ago

Big River Alexander Valley Zinfandel

HUGE wine! Can only imagine what this Zin tasted like on release. Currently at age sixteen shows dense red cherry and plum; intriguing leather/mushroom/tea like notes on the nose. Still very alive with firm tannins and has to be at least a percent or two of R.S. Great wine! — 5 years ago

At 10 years old, Ravens Wood Old Vine Zinfandel 2009 was delectable, divine and oh so delicious. Full of berry fruit with a perfect amount of spice. Lucky me! — 7 years ago

Sonoma County Old Vine Zinfandel

From Joel’s cellar offering a year or so ago. Outstanding freshness and vigor in this one. Light in color as most of the pigment had pasted itself on the sides of the bottle. Deep nose of plum/Healdsburg prune and cedar. Comes across as both primary and tertiary at the same time. Firm acidity with gripping tannins. — 3 years ago

Sonoma County Zinfandel

From Joel’s library release: This is the 1988 vintage of the Old Vine Sonoma County. Still fresh and alive with all the complexity of thirty two year old wine. Sweet cedar and cherry on the nose; firm acidity and still somewhat tannic; good follow through on the palate with more cherry and cloves. Great wine!! — 4 years ago

Belloni Sonoma County Zinfandel 1999

On the nose: Fennel, dried figs mothballs, tomato, some cherry red fruit some violets.
In the taste: great acidity ,sassafras, dried dark fruit secondary flavors, a little bit of graphite (reminds me of old Bordeaux), red fruit almost cherry

Limited Edition Old Hill Vineyard Zinfandel 1988

Darkest color of all the Zins, from a so-so vintage, rich fruit that is somewhat fat and not completely distinctive, fresh and youthful (from my friend John’s super cold cellar), longish and complex finish, kudos to Joel Peterson for the freshness and absolute quality of these two 1988 Ravenswood Zins!! — 5 months ago

The Dodgers won in both 1988 and 2001, so for good luck I brought these to our Wold Series party. Can’t believe how well this is holding up after 37 years! — 8 months ago
