This wine is inky dark, with no light getting through the glass. Black fruit provides the sweet part of the nose, while tar, earth, tobacco, and coffee cover the savory side. Blackberry and plum flavors are joined on the palate by earthy minerals and a brisk acidity. The tannins are firm and seem to eagerly await a pairing with some beef. It’s a delicious wine, so if you’re not pairing it with food, that’s okay. — 8 months ago

Blend of 64% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 6% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby red color with aromas of red and black fruit and toasty spice, from a warmer year. The palate shows plum and blackberry flavors with smoke, cacao and spice. Vivid acidity, firm ripe tannins, integrated lending to a medium+ finish ending with some earthy notes. — 5 months ago

Marvelous 22-year old #rioja just shows how proper storage from a volume producer can yield so much enjoyment in a relatively inexpensive bottle. Opened and poured slightly cooled. Immediate bouquet much fresher than expected, crunchy red fruit, black tea, dried flowers. Acidity still vibrant on palate but red/black berry fruit was muted, as expected, but tannins had softened to a delicate texture. After 20-30 minutes in the glass the nose changed markedly with caramel, marzipan tertiary notes drifting out. Aged Rioja is an excellent flexible food-paring wine and proved ideal for a premium steakhouse experience.. Bacon-wrapped shrimp tasted delicious with this wine. — 4 years ago
