Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

Been awhile since I’ve had this one. Always consistently good.

Beautiful mousse, bruised red apple & Bosc pear, underripe pineapple flesh, blood orange, quince, nougat, hints of white peach, white spice-ginger, whipped cream, yeasty bread dough, sea spray, speckled chalk bits, grey volcanics, limestone, withering yellow lilies/flowers, crisp acidity, well tensioned-structured, well balanced and elegant finish that last two-minutes.

Grande Réserve Perle de Vigne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Chardonnay Blend

Color is a little darker than I expected!

Smells like red apple and seaweed…and cured turkey.

Tastes very apple-y, but more of a sweet apple than a tart apple. Some cherry. A little toast and a slight champagne-y quality. Enjoyable. Good deal for the pricier liquor stores in the area I am visiting. 89.

Réserve Alsace Riesling 2008

Nice pairing with my Spicy Asian Lettuce Wraps. As the saying goes, if you have heat, bring the sweet.

This 08 has settled in nicely.

The petroleum has softened. White peach, tropical melons, apricots, Meyer lemons, some green apple, underripe pineapple juices, kiwi, liquid caramel, honeycomb notes, nut w/ skin, dry crushed, rock powder, saline notes, volcanic minerals, white & yellow flowers, grand acidity with nice balance and elegant finish that lasts nearly a minute and lands on soft earthiness and minerality.

Alsace has such history. Phylloxera in the late 1800’s destroyed the vines. World War I & II saw Alsace change hands twice, French & German. Also, saw German tanks roll over their vineyards. It takes 7 yrs for replanted vines to produce the first quality useable fruit. German soldiers drank all their cellars. Name me another non France region that saw that many issues. Maybe, Sicily?

Smells like seawater and raw egg — saline!

Light, crisp, lemon, seawater. A little bread crust on the back end if you look for it. Good and elegant — but tastes more like a good cremant than what I expect from champagne. 90.

Time for something from France.

I’ve generally not been a huge fan of Taittingers N/V, but after a series of Croatian wines, it seems much better. Just goes to the saying, everything’s relative! .

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réserve Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Rhone Blend 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2023 Cuvée Réservé Blanc pours a deep yellow color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of melons, a mix of white and yellow flowers, marmalade, tarragon, and wet stones. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with an oily texture. Lovely stuff and better with air. Drink now through 2033. — 9 days ago

Cuvée de Réserve Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Crisp, citrusy and with great acidity and freshness. This is one of the best and finest blanc de blancs from an independent grower we know: Rodolphe Peters does truly great champagne. — 23 days ago
