Quantum Napa Valley Red Blend 2017

One of my favorites. Great blend of cab sauv, cab franc, Merlot, petite Verdot, & Malbec. Ages well. — 2 months ago

Château Charmail

Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Another great effort from this Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel that will be certified organic in 2022. Interestingly I just read an article which states that they use energetic healing methods for the vines, based on quantum physics. The truth is in the glass, and the last 3 vintages (2020 , 2019 and 2018) are all terrific value for less than 20 euros. — 2 years ago

Quantum Leap

Kaley's Rescue Red 2014

Very nice Paso Robles sourced red blend. Pleasant nose, complex on palate with just enough tannins to be bold but not overwhelming. Bonus is that portions of sales go to a pet rescue I. Honor of the winemakers former pet Kaley for whom the wine is named. — 4 years ago

Solid left bank blend. Ripe black fruits with pleasant earthy elements. Medium to full body. Juicy acidity. Tannins is a bit tight.

Was called Quantum prior to ‘18.

En Remilly Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Wow you can tell this is good stuff. Elegant and pure. Lemon custard and lime, coconut. Zippy minerals. Perfect use of oak. But needs a lot of time. Don’t be like me and open this now... Still way heavy so2 from bottling. Not sure there’s a quantum leap between this and the excellent Bourgogne blanc. — 3 years ago

Penfolds

Bin 600 California Cabernet Shiraz 2018

Rich crimson with purple tinges. It certainly has the Penfolds winemaking thumbprint of ripe fruit and toasty oak. As HH said it tastes more Australian than Californian even though all the fruit is Californian and it was vinified there. These are the details (78% Cabernet 22% Shiraz. Napa 45%, Sonoma 35%, Paso Robles 20%). In hindsight it probably tastes Australian because of the Cabernet Shiraz blend which is common in Australia and rare (or nonexistent in California?). This venture for Penfolds has been 30 years in the making with Shiraz cuttings being brought from South Australia to Geyser Peak in Sonoma back then as our host for the dinner explained on the night. 4 Cuvées, all Red have been made ranging in price of $95 for this wine to $950 for Quantum. 70% of the production has been allocated to the North American market so dinners such as the one we had are quite rare in Australia because of lack of stock. This Bin 600 even though the least expensive of the 4 Cuvées will live well into the late 2030s even though it is so well balanced you could happily drink it now. — 3 years ago
