1995 Bussia Barolo.
Still holding a deep red core with a bit of fading at the rim…impressive.
Dried Bing cherries, dried roses and flowers on the nose.
Dried red fruit, cherries and plums with mint and mushrooms.
Tannins are disappearing but the acidity is still so smooth.
A friend foraged for local Matsutake mushrooms and we made risotto with black summer truffles. — 8 months ago
Bright fruit and dusty earth, fresh, tannins softened with a short decant, drinking beautifully, sophisticated yet gluggable. — 2 years ago
2021 vintage. A bit of everything. Esteemed producer. Excellent nose. Front-palate richness. Mid-palate power and presence. Pleasantly astringent and beyond substantial finish. I usually eschew Barbera d'Alba for the resto list but couldn't deny this one. Picked up two cases and may pick up more to have laying around for 1.5-2 years. At the ridiculous resto price of $26.67, I can't afford not to. So delicious. 01.29.25. — 4 months ago
Small, family owned winery farmed organically by hand. The riserva has 3 years in oak and could use a little more time to integrate, but already it’s very elegant and aromatic. Beautiful and soulful wine showing very primary right now with raspberry, cherry, balsamic, a bit of leather and licorice with air — 6 months ago
Incredibly complex. Wow… Where to even begin? Quite fragrant: waxed golden apple, green pear, pepper, and lots of lemon rind. The lemon and wax continue when drunk, but the apple turns to pear with intense acid, cream and vanilla and a touch of honey. This wine has no idea what it wants to be, and that makes it fun as hell. — 3 years ago

I believe this was Aldo’s top Barolo back in the day(??), this is much more evolved than the 1982 Gaja Barbaresco, drying tannins and some just barely on the downside soy notes detract, as my brother always tells me, rarely are older wines great, but sometimes individual bottles are, still a very good 43-year-old Barolo!! — 4 days ago
