Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Last tried ‘09 was in 2014, wow, still young and vibrant for an 11+ year old wine. 100% Nebbiolo, rich deep ruby red color with aromas of black fruit, herb, cedar and spice notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, cherry and ripe plum, with notes of leather, spice, cracked pepper and fennel, with slight floral. Fine chewy tannins, still packs a pop, long finish ending with fruit, oak and spice. It was great now but this Barolo still has a decade+ to age. Just delightful. — 2 days ago

Barolo Del Comune di La Morra Nebbiolo 2017

9.5

Very very pretty nose. So elegant and airy. Layered. Unreal vivid cherries. Like in 3D. So beautiful. Unreal tar, flowers and roses. But there is general flower aroma and then awesome roses. Smokey and just SO perfumed. A nose to die for and it’s a 9.5 atoms out of the gates. Just insane. This is what one wants. Palate is round and so juicy. Wow. What fruit. Such an intense fruit squeeze and just amazing tannins. They are so so so elegant and ripe. They just perfectly integrate with all the other components. What a wine. Not a hair out of place. So so well made. I think Cesare is the Italian Zeireisen. He cannot miss. Best 2017 Barolo I’ve had and it’s not close. So haunting. This is like old school Volnay. What texture. So airy and rich but so fresh! This is the stuff. The sweetness starting to come in. This is so bright and vibrant. Wow. Stunning balance and purity. This will only gain with air.

It has gained. More inner mouth aromas, more purity, more length and now the mine skirt really has come out. Spectacular length. This is verging on a 9.6. So complex now. Just brilliant. The wine has an energy combined with a serenity that just slays you.

Barbera d'Alba 2018

Notes of berry. Fresh. Lighter but full body. Easy on the palate. You can sense this could age well. A nice mid-afternoon glass, alone, or with a handful of nuts. — 2 days ago

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2018

Rossos are tricky - many underdeliver for the price. This was excellent! Cherry on nose. Strawberry and cedar notes with lingering tannins. Baby brunello for 30$. Had with Union Loafers. — a month ago

Ornato Barolo Nebbiolo 2004

I’m a sucker for Ornato but this was so awkward for an hour, warming from cellar temp and getting some air at 17 years young. After 90 min decant (+airation) powerful nose of blood red🌹and asphalt, not a single hard edge on the big but light and round gem, bloody beautiful, feminine leather and sour 🍒. Finish went on forever with just a twinge of drying tannins suggesting it’s time to drink these. Best news: I have 3 more. — 3 months ago

Fossati Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

9.8

Sick. Super sick. Magic. The creme de la creme. This is a superstar wine. It’s so nice when elite expensive wine delivers. Nose has the most precise mid season cherries ever. So wow. Tar. Spice. Smoke. Layered like nothing else. Elite. A nose that captures you like nothing else. Licorice. So clean. Every aroma is so defined. So precise. But it also is ephemeral and flirty like great Nebbiolo should be. Seductive. Every sniff a new nuance. It smells crunchy. Ocean air leads to superb minerality. So so good. The clarity here is ridiculous. Just so insane. 9.8 nose. It might go higher. So elegant and concentrated with just the most precise fruit. Salty sweet almost. God damn this is so good. How to you get salty sweet cherries in a wine? And to have it taste this good. They are crunchy cherries as well. And like salt that you blend with caramel. That glistening salt. The clear stuff. Balanced. So so balanced and filled with energy and the most clear and precise fruit. Amazing tannins. Powerful but so deep and cuts a swath. Long like a July day. It never ends. And it coats your palate with minerals but the fruit keeps pushing for minutes. My score will be higher in 5-8 years.

Got insane overnight. Amazingly precise and smells elegant. Unreal sweet fruit. So pure. So complex. So powdery. Balance is superb. This is as good as Barolo gets. 9.7 to 9.8.

Roscaleto Barbera d'Alba 2017

Lyle Fass
9.6

@Delectable Wine this is the Roscaleto. Thanks!

This sadly is sold out by the time I tasted it as it’s only 680 bottles sold. Nose is deep and complex with incense, blackberry, intense minerality, leather, smoke, first base glove (new), just insane aromas. Palate is super concentrated but light as feather and has unreal fruit. Maybe the most elegant and balanced 15.5% wine I’ve ever had. Remarkable. Nose gets now into blackberry liqueur, some gamey meats, and a granitic/limestone minerality. So elegant, pure and concentrated with just absolutely thrilling fruit. Ripe but such tiny berry intensity.

OK this needed mega air as today it is insane. 9.4 to 9.6. Bonkers sweet fruit and finesse. Holy shit this is good.

Too bad. Love his labels. The other barbera of his we had is textbook example of how to make a high ABV red wine. Brilliant stuff.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2012

Always solid and dependable if not anything spectacular. Easy on the tannins and clear cherry and earth notes. Finish is easy. More mellow Barolo than most but is sometimes great to have a reliable Barolo that drinks well young. — 4 months ago
