The 1999 Bordeaux vintage for many was not stellar. However, if their was one region that excelled, it was Pessac-Leognan. I actually spent two nights at this beautiful Chateau during En Premier in 2014.
The nose is soft & subtle. Mid fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, cooked pomegranate, poached strawberries, black plum with heavy skin, & haunting blueberries. Well cooked toast-not burnt, soft lead pencil shavings, dry top soils, limestone minerals, used tobacco, old leather, dry river stone, dry black earth, vanillin, gentle spice, steeped tea left in the glass for an extended period with withering dark, red florals with dry lavender.
The palate is dry with fruits that are cooked yet juicy. Blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, cooked pomegranate, poached strawberries, black plum with heavy skin, & haunting blueberries. Cherry cola/licorice-cherry nibs, well cooked toast-not burnt, soft lead pencil shavings, dry top soils, limestone minerals, used tobacco, old leather, dry river stone, moist black earth with dry leaves, mint, dry herbs, charcoal, vanillin, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, gentle dark Asian spice, steeped tea left in the glass for an extended period with withering dark, red florals with dry lavender. The acidity is delightful. The finish is well balanced, structured, same wire to wire with a slight dry end that lasts two minutes.
She’s pretty with Tri-tip. — 3 years ago
White Pessac Leognan when done right. Probably at its peak now. Despite the 70% sauvignon blanc / 30% sémillon blend, the sémillon seems to take the ascendency here. Right balance of mineral, flower, alcool and fruit with a satisfying length and a tight finish. — 5 years ago
Really really good. — 7 months ago
Decanted this for an hour and a half and reserved a glass in the bottle for the second day. These notes are based on the second day, as the flavors seemed to shine through a bit more. On the nose, aromas of blackberry and leather, although had to do quite a bit of swirling to get the aromas to come through. On the palate, beautifully deep flavors of blackberry and black currant coming through, with hints of graphite and cocoa in the background. Tannins seems pretty well integrated with good acidity, although definitely some grip on the finish. Cocoa seems to come through a bit more on the finish as well. Overall really tasty, but seems to be closing down a bit for sure. I have one more bottle, so looking forward to seeing how this tastes in 5-10 years time. — 7 months ago
Deep, slightly inky red-purple, pronounced acidity, mature, red currants and cherries, excellent Pessac-Leognan — 2 years ago
Another oldie from our family cellar, well aged, dusty herbal aroma, brick colored on the rim, great weight and texture, an elegant joy from start to finish. — 4 years ago
So sad that délectable confuses the label of a Bordeaux Wine Pessac-Leognan with first New-zealand Wine and for a second try with a Californian one....Come on !
