Dollar for dollar, the best producer of CA Pinot Noir.
Dark cherries, plum, blackberries, black raspberries, mid berry cola/licorice, hint of eucalyptus, dark, rich soil, dry, crushed rocks, limestone, soft; clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt me grilled meats, soft smokiness, mix of dark & red flowers with violets. Round acidity with balance, smartly polished elegance with a finish that lasts 90 seconds and falls evenly on earth & fruits. — 10 months ago
Thank you, Paul. First time tasting this. Very Meursault like. Tart green apple, lemon custard, crisp acidity, some new oak. — 3 years ago
Berdegue magnum — 4 months ago
Exotic Malbec. Medium bodied with more red fruits and savory. If you had blinded me and said it was some odd, cab franc+syrah. Id have believed you. Very good. — 4 months ago
Excellent chard, beautiful golden color, fragrant pear on the nose, good full bodied follow through on the palate. Only demerit is the slightest acidic twist at the back end. But that mellows after breathing awhile. Don’t overchill — 2 years ago
I have consistently said, if this is not the best, it’s one of the very best Ca Pinot producers for the money. If my memory is still good, I think this was $38ish.
This 18 is the first look of six. It is drinking nicely but will still ascend for another five yrs. When that occurs, add a point, maybe two.
The nose shows a dark core of blackberries, spiced plum, strawberries, cherries and pomegranate. Cinnamon, clove, light nutmeg, vanillin, sweet, forest floor with dry leaves, dry & moist herbaceous notes, tree sap with some bark, withering & slightly candied; dark, red flowers, red & pink roses wrapped in violets.
The body is round, lush and the experience is almost Burgundian. Ripe; dark cherries, blackberries, strawberries, plum and hovering blueberries. Dark spice with expansive, circular mouth heat, tree sap, eucalyptus, moist & dry herbs, moist, volcanic laced clay, limestone chalkiness, dry crushed rocks, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanilla, mid berry cola/licorice, some char of grilled meats, tobacco, leather, oak shavings, slightly candied & floral; dark, red flowers, red & pink roses wrapped in violets, grand, round acidity and a finish that is well balanced/structured, good tension & length with a round elegant finish that lasts nearly two-minutes. — 2 months ago
I’m late to writing this having worked my way through half a case since 2019, but the wine was outstanding throughout and still seemed to have a lot of life in Jan ‘26. Deep, dark, sweet fruit, edges may have rounded over time but maintains a gentle acidity and earthy finish. Raspberry, tart cherry, plummy finish, a depth that few other WH North Slopes have. Wish I had more. — 5 months ago
From 100% Wente clones that get max hang time, large and tiny berries packed together, pale lemon with subtle aromas of citrus and stone fruits. On the palate flavors of apple, lemon and lime flavors, crisp acidity, long finish ending with rich mineral character. Perfect now! — 2 years ago
A stunning showing and 16 might be the best vintage ever at Walter. Nose is late season cherries, some framing oak, spice, tobacco, stunning minerality and just endless depth. So floral and complex. I could smell this all day. Smells like elite NSG right now. Palate is just amazing. Ridiculous dark cherry fruit that is so crunchy, fresh and concentrated. Wow this is so precise and succulent. Insane balance and hidden power. What depth and length. Amazing stuff in that it’s so silky and juicy and sweet and the oak is already so well integrated on the palate. This has sexy, velvety tannins and an amazingly long finish. 9.5 now but this will go higher. — 3 years ago
