2016. A simply excellent GSM but mouvedre dominant. I originally thought cab but noticed the bottle shape and guessed a GSM, southern rhône. Turns out it’s Santa Barbara and an SQN offshoot. Perhaps my favorite of the Big Island trip. — 5 years ago

Beautiful straw color in the glass with a tantalizing nose that pulls you right in. Lemon zest, brioche and honey on the nose. The mouthfeel and palate are incredible and reminiscent of a Côte de Beaune white Burgundy. I get citrus notes upfront with a great depth of flavors including butterscotch, toasted almonds, and a touch of brioche. The same amazing quality you'd expect from Pahlmeyer wines continues in their offshoot Wayfarer. Merry Christmas everyone! — 10 years ago

Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon am offshoot of reynvanne all walla walle fruit . A good bit if barnyard fresh earth and that animal game like note light smoke to the plum and cherry fruit. Meant to appeal to the cool kids, this scribbly offshoot is biodynamic but pretty clean overall. Pinot Gris in baby rose' form. Visually appealing - a glint of elegant rose gold. Delicate pear, yellow apple, jasmine flower. Nice round weight and overall pretty pleasant. — 4 years ago

I’m not normally a California Pinot fan but Anderson Valley is an AVA I can make an exception for. This Navarro offshoot is a prime example of what Cali pinots can do when done well: low funk and high amounts of fruit. Baked blackberry pie and cloves/other baking spices. Founded in 1996, Ca'Marcanda is an offshoot project of GAJA. That being the case, my expectations were high—I was not disappointed. The 2000 opens with sumptuous aromas of violets, saddle leather, dust, cherry and red currant. Poised and elegantly textured, fine, velvety tannins encase a core of pure fruit. This sensational Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc blend is just beautiful now. Finishes with notes of bouquet garni, sweet tobacco and baking spice. — 12 years ago

Wow. Totally surprised by this wine. As I understand it, La Voix is an offshoot from Steve’s flagship operation, Palmina (the best Italian varietal-based wines outside of the Old Country, IMHO). I was a bit skeptical at first - was concerned about it being over-oaked like the one vintage of John Alban’s Perra Docs North offerings that I’ve had - but this is terrific (and an amazing QPR). Definitely has an old-world flare to it in terms of acidity and minerality (more Chablis than Burgundy), but with CA fruit through and through. Do yourself a favor and try one of these! — 6 years ago
