Bodega Chacra

Cincuenta y Cinco Pinot Noir 2022

Strawberry and rhubarb driven. A little too fruit forward for me. Labeled as Burgundian in style - i am not so sure. And quite $$$. For Argentina. — 2 months ago

Castello di Ama

Vigneto San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

See previous Note. Old plummie, red cherry notes. Barb said dusty and pine needles. A cooler vintage. I said red cherries and freshly tilled loam. As Galloni said “In 2010 Ama did not bottle their single vineyard selections. All the best fruit went here.” Tasting more the quality of a Brunello than a Chianti Classico. No. 6 in Wine Spectators Top 100 for 2015. — 4 months ago

In 2015, the WS Top 100 meant something. To look at it the last few years it is puzzling. I recently read their website for the criteria they use to come up with their top 100 and all I could do after reading the criteria and seeing their 2024 selections is scratch my head.

@Bob McDonald first vintage of Gran Selezione ever, definitely a good start with the 2010. Great pull!

Lorenzo Begali

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2019

2019. Deep and dark flavors without any hints from the >16% alcohol. Paired better with my friends’ hanger steak and short ribs, but didn’t overpower the last of my duck breast. — a month ago

Sorì San Lorenzo Langhe Nebbiolo 2003

Even though the vintage is ranked 82 by RP, this wine made an absolute great impression, entertaining different tones every sip. I felt more prominence of paper, forest, dry and wet, and autumn fallen dry leaves, mushrooms, with berries, jammed wild strawberries and some cranberries, coming wrapped in woody aromas. Highly elegant, well but not perfectly balanced with small show-offs of acidity, tannins or sweetness on the runway — 3 months ago
