A pristine, late-release ex-chateau bottle.
Mind-boggling. Look at that colour….
100% sure that I would miss the vintage by 25 years or so…..

Surprisingly pleasant and fun. Had it twice and drank it down both times. Cooled it a bit first. — 3 years ago

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Les Rougeots Meursault Chardonnay 1996

Deep gold color. Sweet, fruit forward nose. Notes of apricot, pineapple, kiwi, white flowers, some baked apples and some tan spice. Rich and round in the mouth. Subtle but very present acidity. Past it’s peak perhaps, but it’s a really nice aged white burg. Great mouth feel and finish. Cuts through the cheese and spreads it’s served with. Drink up soon so as not to miss what this has left in the tank. — 4 years ago

Paloma

Napa Valley Syrah 1998

Beautiful Syrah from Spring Mountain, savoury aromas and flavors, very French-like if served blind, still has lots of primary redfruits showing, tannins have largely receded, from a partially-shaded 5-acre portion at the bottom of the Paloma vineyard, long finish, I believe the Syrah vines were planted in 1992 and pulled out after the 2001/2002(?) vintage, Barbara and Jim Richards said the farming was more difficult than the Merlot (and smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon) that Paloma is known for and thus they elected to replant (graft? Not sure) more of the other varieties into that plot. While the first vintage of the Syrah (1995) was never commercially released (12 cases produced from 3 year old vines), Jim was kind enough to send me home with 4 bottles, that wine was the best Syrah to EVER come off that vineyard, I was forever in his debt, it was AMAZING. I miss Barbara and Jim, some of the nicest people I’ve ever met in the wine business (I’m NOT in the business myself)!! — 9 months ago

Monthélie-Douhairet Porcheret

Cuvée Miss Armande Monthelie Pinot Noir 2018

Popped and poured; consumed over 3+ hours. The 2018 Monthelie, “Cuvée Miss Armande” by Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret comes from small parcels throughout Monthelie totaling a little over 2 acres. The wine pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core. No signs of sediment. The wine is medium viscosity, with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is redolent of red fruit: lightly macerated strawberries and cherries, horse blanket, red flowers with some forest floor. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. The notes on the nose are confirmed. This is a somewhat rustic Burgundy but hugely charming right from the go. Drinking well now and should continue to do so through 2030. — 3 years ago
