Meursault Chardonnay 2018

Lyle Fass

Killer nose. Superbly mineral. Butter as an accent. Awesome airy quality. Superb refined aromas and definition. So so so earthy. Lemon. Green apple. Lemon drop. An incredible nose. Iodine up the wazoo. Palate is superb. Elegant, salty and wonderful concentrated but not over the top. So refined and so well made. Pure as the sky is blue. Just a pure liquid gum drop of Meursault. Wow what chiseled minerality and unreal depth. This is so so so good. Tastes like 1er Cru. What a debut. Blown away. After air this gains complexity and depth. This is super super pure. Almost a 9.5. What a debut. — 2 days ago

Les Perrières Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 1990

Yellow gold color. A fruit forward nose that grabs your undivided attention. Notes of apricot, pear, tangerine and wet stone. Big, rich and round in the mouth. With air this develops into an amazing perfume. Killer juice. Lots of acidity and structure which grows over the evening. Some noted the amount of oak that comes out in the finish but that characteristic isn't an issue for me. This bottle was youthful and easily had another 10 years in front of it, unlike the last time we had this when the wine was more tired and not as exciting. One of the best Coche I've ever had. And tonight it's the just first of some great whites... (Bday 3 of 13) — 5 days ago

Meursault Chardonnay 1999

Medium gold color. Nice heavy weight in the glass for a Village wine. Leesy, citrus nose. Notes of lemon, some petrol, wet stones, mandarin orange, tan spices and some sweet candied apricot. Rich in the mouth. Needs 2 hours of air in a decanter to power up its structure and acidity, and the wine becomes much more complex as well. Great bottle... Feelin’ Cochey! — 17 days ago

Impressive in deed, colour looks pronounced due to age more so then oxydation I guess? At any rate, a great find and seems like quite a bottle

@Mario Vaillancourt yes, I felt the color was appropriate for the age of the wine and the lighting in the picture might have made it look a bit darker. It was in no way overly advanced for its age based on my experience. However I will drink up my remaining bottles of this in the next couple of years though. - this bottle used to have razor sharp acidity and it has mellowed a bit, putting it in a great drinking window right now.

@Mike Saviage thanks Mike, I am not surprised the acidity came back to life after a while in the decanter and I am glad for you that you have more of this to enjoy, such a mythical producer.

Domaine Chavy-Chouet

Les Charmes Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

Lyle Fass

Silly great nose. Subtle spices, elegant apples, brown sugar, glorious mineralic spices, pear flesh and green apple skins, even jellied apples, so complex and haunting. Smells so harmonious and complete. The nose is also harmonious and orb like which is what 18 is so good at. Amazing spice and complexity on the palate and big acidity. Highest acidity of any Chavy 18 so far. Incredible inner mouth salinity, like the most gorgeous salt placement on one’s palate ever then straight into just absolutely crazy complexity and freshness. What energy and straight as an arrow. The purity is top notch. The finish just dissipates and the harmony is so gorgeous. What a finish. Minutes at least. Amazing amount of material on the palate and subtle concentration. So saline and juicy. Incredible. — 4 days ago

Les Narvaux Meursault Chardonnay 2017

Captures just about everything I want in Meursault. Traditional winemaking, lovely weight and dimension backed by just the right amount of tension. Harmony of oxidation and reduction. Beautiful ripe citrus and orchard blossoms, hazelnut, struck flint, subtle spice, sweet lees, wet limestone. One of the more generous Narvaux wines I’ve tried, this had an amplitude to it that I don’t normally find in what I normally consider and more tense and leaner site. It was singing on day 2 — 2 days ago

2010 Vintage. 13% Alcohol. Lovely lemony fruit with good acidity and a hint of cinnamon. Went great with Acme sourdough bread with goat cheese, ebooks and raspberry balsamic vinegar. — 7 days ago

Nice but not spectacular. My expectations were higher as H.Boillot has been delivering some exceptional wines over the last years. — 2 days ago

Meursault Chardonnay 2014

Lemon, grapefruit and mineral notes on nose and palate. Wonderful freshness with medium acidity but requisite tension. Good density on the palate with a tinge of honey and pineapple juice to compliment the citrus. More on the austere grapefruit style than the fleshy peachy opulent style. Ticks all the boxes for very good village Meursault from the very good 2014 vintage for White Burgundies. Ready to drink now. — 11 days ago

With 2018 CC has gone to another level. A vintage I prefer to 2014 and 2017. More depth. More harmony. Gorgeous nose. Lemon oil. Lemon pith, stunning spice and deep penetrating minerality. Hint of green Apple and tons of wet earth. Just a slamming nose. New nuances approach every 10 minutes. Beguiling and dizzying. Palate is so refined, fresh and sleek. So nimble, mineral and racy. Amazing palate presence and near perfect focus. Ripe and so juicy but with a very serious and very intense mineral attack and then lemon and lime gumdrops. Perfect balance and jaw dropping purity. Infinite finesse. So focused and lean yet this is like a laser on the palate. Amazing texture and a sense of tactile mineralic sweetness. Awesome mid palate and stunning dissipating finish. Awesome inner mouth aromas and super salty finish. Lingers and lingers. A masterpiece. — 4 days ago

This is glorious. Oily-textured. Lemon, slate, pear, a beautiful undertow off steel and rich fruit. A really persistent and lucid mid palate of green fruit and great balance and acidity. The Raveneau of meursault. Delicious — 7 days ago
