This bottling showed up at my Costco for $26.99. On experience, I thought it must be a pretty good burgundy value. Louis Latour a pretty good grower, producer & Negociant. So, I bought one. I was going to do a Premier Cru Chablis, but thought I’d try this tonight. 2023 also an amazing white burgundy vintage. And of course, to see if I wanted a few more.
This nose shows; sour green apple, golden apple, kiwi, lime, lemon, pineapple, white stone fruit, light orange citrus blend, honeysuckle, some dry herbs, vanilla, cream, caramel, dry twig/tree bark, beautiful chalkiness, limestone & volcanic powder, white & yellow lilies w/ greens.
The palate is round, viscous and waxy. Green apple, golden apple, kiwi, lime, lemon, pineapple, apricots, white stone fruit, light orange citrus blend, honeysuckle-comb, some dry herbs, vanilla, cream, caramel, butterscotch, touch of mint, graham crackers, dry twig/tree bark, beautiful chalkiness, dry limestone & volcanic powder, gentle white spice with almost a Meursault mineral & saline character, white & yellow lilies w/ greens, grand, round, rainfall acidity, well knitted, balance for days with an elegantly, smartly polished finish that lasts nearly two-minutes.
91-92.
I believe the key to enjoying white burgundy is to let it warm to 55-61, not 46-48. Leave warmer climate, well wooded Chardonnay to the well chilled. Or, not well made Chardonnay…it cover up its flaws. Warmer temps bring out the flavor & beauty of good Chardonnay. — a month ago

Beyond beautiful! Immediately soft upon opening—had planned to decant for 4-6 hours but decided against. Open and had small taste with Maggie Harrison around noon. Decided to re-cork it and decanted at 4PM.
At noon I got (very unexpected) cranberry notes on the nose and the palate was considerably more gentle than expected.
After two hour decant: Soft (cat tongue), integrated tannins, pomegranate, black cherry begins to emerge. Herbs, smoky/meaty notes emerge

Opened three days earlier. The 2023 pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe brambles, lavender pastilles, bacon fat, black pepper, and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A delightful pairing with Bison ribeye. Young but showing its potential. Drink now through 2043. — 7 days ago
Noticeably deep colour , deeper than all the others , medium deep ruby quite thin ruby rim . Quite herbal and deep on the nose , with darker fruit profile . Blackberry , dark plum, dark cherry , earthy herbal touches. On the palate this is quite dense and rich with dark cherry , kirsch, blackberry , and a richer frame . Quite gritty but ripe tannins , with balanced acidity . Decent lightly chalky cherry , blackberry, herbal tinged finish . Very different from all others , darker and richer , riper . However , still well made , though not that charming or , dare I say it ‘Burgundian’ , probably as expected . I believe this also needs some time , come back in 5 years and drink over the next 10 or so. — 25 days ago

2021 vintage. Tasted via Coravin. So the deals definitely afoot in Napa (and elsewhere in CA) currently. This was light-medium/medium body. Not the biggest Cabernet footprint on the delicate palate. But wow...immediately engaging and intimate simultaneously. Having tasted the late 60's, some 70's, most of the 80's, and nearly all of the 90's-2010's vintages of this at some point...actually feel like this is the wine this property has always wanted to make since inception. It's pure, authentic, and pared to the bone. Zen-like. No fluff, no fat. Tasting a Cabernet like this reminds me (yet again) how bastardized things have truly gotten along CA Hwy 29. Picked up two 6-packs and we'll see how it does. Leaner and biting-playfully. So unlike nearly all Napa cabs these days so it comes across as a huge palate/Napa Cab market reset now. Have been able to take or leave BV over the decades compared to Phelps, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, Dunn, Diamond Creek, Mondavi, Mayacamas, Heitz and the rest of the really old guard but blind taste this against any 2020 or newer Napa Cab and/or Bordeaux and see where it slots for you. 8.5.26. — 12 days ago
