On the nose this never going to get mistaken for anything but riesling. You get a hit of that petrol/plastic beachball smell as well as mossy rocks and lemon peel. Palate is off dry with honey drizzled lemon and very ripe pear. Nice medium acidity keeps the balance in check with a hint of those petrol notes.
A little sweeter than what I was expecting, but still a tasty, clean wine. — 5 years ago
@Delectable Wine : This is the Parallel Wines Black Diamond “Limelight”. I didn’t see it in the database.
Attended a Parallel Wines private tasting last night. Very nice and classic in style. Didn’t realize how small their production is...less than 600 total cases. This is their 20th year and Melka has been with them from the beginning.
Shockingly open for a reserve 2016 Napa cab (100% cab). It’s still flaunting dusty and chalky tannins on the finish but it’s an iron fist in a velvet glove overall. Black cherry, raspberry fig, plum, and baking spices jump from the glass. Soft on the palate. High percentage dark cocoa, mulberry and fresh cedar. — 7 years ago
With no wax along the neck I know what kind of BG will be imbibed...At least I thought I knew, but a light, wafted air flutter rolls over your tongue, like a strawberry hued wave about to crest.
The nose had a little funk at first. Steely underripe strawberry dominates the nose thereafter. The palate expands on muted strawberries with cran and rasp vying for their chance to share the limelight. Hints of lime peel and tart, green apple. Spice from the French oak fermentation and inherent, earthy Pinot Noir varietal characteristics tie together a fiery connotation. Interesting and enjoyable. — 10 years ago
Fruity and light. — 11 years ago
Juicy apple flavours, with a spicy strawberry nose. Interesting pink tint. Veritas silver medal, and 2012 best value award. — 13 years ago
54% Carignane 26% Zin, 20% Mataro. Popped and poured. Gorgeously zingy Carignane dark cherry and blackberry Zin fruit combine but are going mano-a-mano with American oak coconutty scents. Perhaps that’ll integrate with air. On the palate there’s beautiful fruit/acid/tannin balance. Nicely concentrated. Should be really good with pasta con broccoli rabe.
UPDATE: This was a hair better on night 2. The oak had settled down a bit and the beautifully pure fruit was out front in the limelight. — 3 years ago
Vosne Romanée was in the limelight in this podcast that I am following the other day. So I har to have a taste. And I must say that it has got style. 17/5-2021 — 5 years ago

T.A. Returns to S.D. 7/7/2018: such an interesting, but now defunct project from a group who tried to bring some old vineyards in the far southwestern region of France into the limelight. This one is Grenache Gris and Carignane Blanc. The wine geeks in attendance enjoyed this one. — 8 years ago
Terrific Rosso...Stole the limelight tonight from the 08 Brunello. — 12 years ago
Really liked this wine it was crisp and semi sweet but also dry. — 4 years ago
A note from Christmas. Befitting of the ocassion - it always feels so special to open a Vin Jaune. Something about these highly intense wines that just begs for contemplation. I found the 11' En Spois a really elegant expression of the wine, with citrus fruit and saline characters stealing the limelight. Sure it was aldehydic and leesy, as one would expect a Vin Jaune to be, but it never overpowered the juicy elements of the wine. For me, the ace-in-the-hole here was the sappy texture and "clean" linear acidity. All that with walnuts and Manchego - incredible! Just wished we had Comté then. — 4 years ago
Incredibly nose without any alcoholic punch. The wine is drinkable with a dryness that lifts off the palate and leaves the flavor of the earth as and mild spice. The fruit is pleasant without demanding the limelight. — 6 years ago
Not often we have this. As @Carl Fischer suggested, its style straddles Napa and Bordeaux. Soft oak and maraschino cherries on the nose. The palate is nuanced, delineated and textured. Subtle blueberries mix with a hint of roasted coffee beans. A beautiful example that was elbowed out of the limelight by other great wines. Thank you @Carl Fischer for sharing this beauty. — 8 years ago

I had saved this to share with my winemaker friend, Leah Jorgensen, as I wondered how Cab Franc-esque this would show. Plums & pomegranates, hints of orange skin. Juicy once some air got to it; smooth stepping and delightful to see Nerello Cappuccio in the limelight. Cellar potential or enjoy with good friends for a lasting memory. — 10 years ago
Refreshing Pegau Rosé with a stunning rosey-peach hue and aroma. Very fine and delicate mouthfeel with incredible acididity. The finish is quite notable because the spicy minerality lingers & has a warming alcoholic effect. I really enjoy this wine because it's relaxing to drink but it is also quite passive and doesn't try to steal the limelight. — 11 years ago

Parallel Wines Limelight Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Napa Valley, California
It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.
Dark ruby in color, almost Inky, with a short purple rim.
Fruity nose with chocolate notes, vanilla and cedar.
Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing blackberries, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, vanilla, leather, chocolates, tobacco, black pepper, light tar, earth and black tea.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.
This 7 year old Napa Cabernet is already delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.
Rich and extracted, yet elegant. A gorgeous wine.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime.
A great wine from Philippe Melka. Has great potential to become a 95+ point wine. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.
Thank you Barry for sharing this with me.
