Les Pinots Blacks

Bass Phillip

Premium Gippsland Pinot Noir 2012

A gorgeous red fruited perfumed nose which transfers to the rich totally integrated palate. Definitely one of Australia’s best Pinots and IMO as good as its Reserve in many years (the latter being significantly more expensive than the Premium). The new owner Jacques Fourrier now charges round $1500 for the Reserve so I have stopped buying it. I recently served the 2017 Premium blind to my wine tasting group and they all picked it as a Burgundy. — 2 days ago

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2023

Still one of my fav pinots from the states. Terra de promisso delivers a good grape. Loved the slight spice to this. — 9 months ago

Ravenswood Winery

Icon Native Sonoma Mixed Blacks Red Blend 2013

In the early 1850s the first significant vineyards were planted in Sonoma. Over the next half century, through a rigorous process of trial and error, the components were narrowed to four distinct varieties – petite Sarah, Zinfandel, Carignane , and Alicante Bouschet– each demonstrating extraordinary quality. Ravenswood ICON is a revival of this traditional “native Sonoma mixed blacks“ blend produced from old, low production, vineyards planted before Prohibition and is a tribute to Sonoma County’s incredible ancient vines. 14.8% ABV. — a year ago

Belle Glos

Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Much more tannic than most pinots, with a bit more than normal acidity. I think it it needs more fruit in the mouthfeel. But when it opens up, all is forgiven. — 6 years ago

Perseval-Farge

C. de Pinots Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

A 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and (Pinot) Meunier; mostly sourced from the 2011 vintage (40%) with the balance from 2010 and 2009.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The C. de Pinots NV pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe apple, toasted brioche, split almonds and lemon bar and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. The DNA is there and showing a slightly more oxidative style. Drink now. Disgorged July 2016.

Weill A Way Vineyard Mixed Blacks Red Blend 2017

Presently surprised as I never know what I’m going to get with a Bedrock wine. Very dark color to the edge, nice dark fruits throughout and nice long smooth finish. Busy evening with friends over for dinner and everyone enjoyed the wine. — 2 years ago

Roar

Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

A lineup of 10 August West and Roar Pinots, 2007-2011, all made by wine maker Ed Kurtzman, who attended our tasting! This one was meaty and elegant, my #2 of the group. — 5 years ago

St. Helena Estate Mixed Blacks Field Blend Red Blend 2014

Not one to drink a lot of white wine but this is a very well balanced wine . Good fruit, acids, minerality , and a bit of cream on the finish. Definitely a great white wine — 4 months ago

Hirsch Vineyards

San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir 2021

One of the rare Cali Pinots which is not a fruit bomb. Mostly raspberry intermixed with cherry, touch chalk well balanced with good acidity and length. 13.5%. These used to be relatively reasonable priced now north of 70$. It’s a shame really. — 6 months ago

Oregon Pinot Noir 2017

Cherry cordials on the nose, cherries, earthy and herbal to taste, warm alcohol and slight spice on the finish, unexpected flavor but enjoyable. Great for price, stands up to California Pinots in its own way. — 7 years ago
