Bernkasteler Lay Kabinett Mosel Riesling 1999

The most concentrated delineated line of pure petrol I’ve ever had out of a wine. The remainder of fruit and still fresh acidity shows up on the pallet, but the nose is a show.Really cool to taste — 9 months ago

Montevertine

Le Pergole Torte Sangiovese 2016

Still absolutely gigantic and wound up, taking a whole day to give dried flowers and blackberry jam in addition to its massive, tongue-stripping, tannic backbone. Structure to lay down for another 25 years, easy. A bit hard to approach and intense now. — 3 years ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2001

2021/3-4. Really lovely - at 20, it is indeed Burgundian in its open, red fruit character, but it still has that hot-stone Chateauneuf character. I’m so glad I kept a few of these - I now have just one more left. Considering the price has doubled, I don’t know how many more I’ll get to lay down, so I’ll look forward to that last bottle of 2001 with a mix of excitement and sadness. — 5 years ago

Lay Purus Erzeugerabfüllung Riesling

Lemons, mineralogy, cider, green apples. Super floral on the nose and long finish. Some tannin and med plus acidity. If you’re tired of regular ries this is your boy. — 7 years ago

Domaine Bernard Baudry

La Croix Boissée Chinon Blanc Chenin Blanc

I really enjoyed this wine, but got the sense it will really improve with some bottle age. Plan on getting more to lay down if I can keep my hands off it in the meantime. — 7 years ago

Bricco delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

2019 vintage. Decanted and tasted after one hour. Medium body. Vibrant and drinking great now but a decade wait might just up the ante. Tough to lay off tho. 2.20.26. — 5 months ago

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

9.5

Got a great deal on 6 pack of these two Bordeaux greats. Both got scores of 99, but the range of scores was pretty wide for both as well. I know I have to lay them down for 10 years+ but I wanted to try both for a baseline.
The Palmer is showing a lot more than the Ducru. It’s very enjoyable now! Nose is fantastic if a touch muted but still get nice cedar, black cherry, hint of floral, and something herbal. The palate is slate, cherry, blackberry, and currant. Not muted or closed in the least, but the slate thing overlays the fruit. Does that make sense? Help me describe that.
All in all I love this wine. Can’t hardly wait for 10 years from now. Guessing I won’t!

Volker Eisele Family Estate

Terzetto Napa Valley Red Blend 2008

Opened tonight for Easter dinner. Bought this bottle from Volker himself after touring the vineyard. Though I prefer their beautiful estate Cab we picked up one of these to lay down. Slowly opened up, I should have decanted as the last few glasses were nearly perfect. Here is to you Volker, we miss you, cheers! — 7 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

It’s been a year and half since my last bottle. This wine just speaks to me, always has. Blueberry compote nose. Blueberry pie, blackberry, ripe fruit, fantastic mouthfeel. So easy. So glad I bought a case and a half years ago, wish I had got more. Perhaps drinking better now than ever. Wish they still made this cuvée. — 8 months ago

Glad I picked up a bunch of these from Costco a few years ago. Great value! Looking forward to enjoying for the next few years. Don’t think this is a long term lay down but over next five years a great mid week bottle. — 3 years ago
