Antichi Vinai ‘Petra Lava’ Etna Rosso 2012: Medium-bodied. Medium acidity. Subtle tannins. Gorgeous deep red/coffee color with complex aromas. Intense ripe red fruits, followed by blackberry, plum, explosive minerality, smoke & earth. Off-dry finish. Consisting of the Sicilian native grapes Nerello Mascalese & Nerello Cappuccino, this red wine was such an elegant harmonious blend. I loved every sip from start to finish; bummer it was only a 375ml bottle! For me, it truly was a great reflection of the local terroir. Strongly recommend. Have a great day! Cheers🍷 — a month ago

Tenuta di Fessina Erse moscamento 1911
From the northeastern slopes of Etna, v. old vines grown on basalt lava & sandy soils.
Very Burgundian nose, airy, spacious with fresh red berries, some undergrowth and tree bark, a flower whiff, some baking spice. After some time this gains warmth and shows a bit more nougat and some ripe cherry. But very light & fine.
On the palate this remains light with a firm yet polished tannin frame and juicy red berry acidity. There’s nice precision here, crunchy pure fruit, a mineral bite in the back, good depth and a hint of saltiness towards the finish. Fine, juicy, elegant.
A really good alternative to Burgundian Pinots, finer and with more precision vs some other Nerellos. Really good value, too.

Solano County in da house! Color is appropriate. Dark as night and hard to see through. Smell dense and funky. Like rocks in the river, huckleberry sauce over ice cream and toast with blackberry jam. Flavors are lovely. Licorice, black fruits, meats, and something vegetal. Dry but not too much tannin. It’s got plenty of ummmph, but it’s also balanced. Maybe age a bit more if you want. This is a nice bottle. Glad I invested at Grocery Outlet in the top shelf offering. — 3 months ago

👃 Dried blackberries, dried blueberries, over-ripe black cherry, crushed dark chocolate | 👅 Black cherry & strawberry syrup reduction, over-ripe nectarine skin, dark chocolate sauce, light tar notes, acidity/tannins persists with a long, round finish. Satisfying.

Cork pulled for slow oxidation, 11H rest at time of notes.

The end of the line for our Annette's stock, starting life in our cellar as a 4-pack back in Nov. 2005 ($22.50), this has been an enjoyable run.
Paired to homemade chocolate lava cake. 🤤

A full bodied red at 13%, but only with a decant. Think cranberries mixed with lava rock and you’d be close. Given the abv obviously fresh, but such a foundational layer of fine tannins, & it developed in the glass. Just one more feather in the Canary Island cap. Wouldn’t be surprised this still rings bells at age six — 4 months ago
