Red Hills Lake County Cabernet Franc 2017

This is a very tasty Cabernet Franc from Lake County in California.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Showing black currants, blueberries, oak, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, chocolates, earth, light vegetables and light bell pepper.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward.

Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

This 4 year old is drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years.

I gave it 3 hours to open up properly, and paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

100% Cabernet Franc grapes were aged in French oak barrels. A very small production of only 6 barrels.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

What a great wine. Wonderful nose. Campfire, cherries, spice, graphite. A bit quiet but the detail and aromatic precision are stunning. What a palate. So deep, so rich, so pure, so complex, big 17 tannins and wonderful balance and freshness. So long. This is exquisite. Once nose opens up I cannot wait. So much energy and precision. Structured for the long haul. This is brilliant now but needs air. So much more to say. Nose is now getting mintier. Like a wild mint. This is fantastic! I’ll be back.

Really has opened up. Super floral, tree bark, incense and spice. Just so great. Ripe and silky and super elite. This is beautiful. So elegant and structured. Amazing purity and depth. 9.4 to 9.6.

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

Oh my god. Red wine with oomph, how I have missed thee. My 31 year old taste buds thank thee for your powerful musk.

Italian wines smell like my grandfather. He was a Don. Capital D and all. Dark, spiced perfume of hot cinnamon, blackberry compote, cherry pie, a tannery, and black pepper.

Tannins are welcome here. A muted acidity allows the purity of the fruit and the smokey warmth of the baking spices to glow.

Siccagno Nero d'Avola 2017

“Siccagno” is becoming so challenging to find around here anymore and I have little doubt that we can thank Stanley Tucci for that! Siccagno is Arianna’s Nero d’Avola and comes from the Sicilian name for the variety. This bottle was popped and poured, consumed over 3 days and I found this to be drinking its best on Day 3. Deep ruby color with a nearly opaque core. Medium viscosity. On the nose, dark cherry, plum, leather and dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with dark cherry fruit, dried strawberry and earth again. Medium tannin and medium+ acid. A delicious and utterly charming wine. The more wines I try from Arianna, the deeper I fall in love. — 4 days ago

Really pretty nose that is super floral. Complex cherries. Confectionary aromas. Minty. Menthol. Really pretty and very nuanced. Bright and high toned. Wow, what a terrific palate. Tannic but sweet and super juicy. Really complex and deep. Lovely balance and freshness. This is really really close to the 16. What a talent. Finish is a mile long. Very very impressed. This tastes and smells like it’s from a cooler vintage than 17. Wonderful texture, structure, depth and sweet tannins and fruit. Endless finish. This is on the verge of a 9.5.

9.4 to 9.5 now with air. What a talent this guy is. So elegant and complex. Just stunning. This is better than his 16.

Nose is so floral and enveloping. A stunner.

This is a young Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley.

Dry on the palate and medium bodied with medium acidity.

Showing red and black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, tobacco, vegetables and coffee.

Easy drinking and good for parties.
Spicy and entertaining.

Still young and not showing it's full potential yet. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

Abtsberg Kabinett Riesling 2017

A pretty pale straw color with little green tinges. Pure elegance from the beginning to the end. Fresh mangoes and delicate peaches on the nose. There’s an undeniable flinty essence here which permeates throughout, never losing steam. Moist stony minerality and dried herbs with just a pinch of elderflower.

It’s so nice when a wine showcases the terroir so clearly and demonstrably. Purely Mosel and very vibrant. Perfectly mature at the moment. Tight acidity and harmonious balance. The palate features some lovely apricot and lemon zest. A little mint on the long finish.

"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay 2017


A lot of fruit on the nose and palate, strawberries and soft spices, some floral hints too, nice acidity and soft tannins with good texture, the finish is nice, nothing super complex but fresh and drinks easy with that Burgundian style a little more then a pure Bojo vinification style.

Du fruit rouge et encore du fruit, au nez comme en bouche, fraises et épices douces, un côté floral aussi avec une belle acidité et des tannins assez souples et agréables, belle finale, rien de super complexe mais frais et se boit tout seul avec ce style un peu plus Bourguignon. 89-90

Awesome nose here. Color is a light salmon and nose is diffused cherries. Some tree bark, some citrus and complex notes of smoke, white pepper and even some almond. Gorgeous, lithe and aromatic. Palate is dry and almost austere but the perfect ripeness balances it all out. Juicy and clean. Sappy and complex. Gorgeous mousse. Really clean and really pure. Long. Good structure. Also toasty and briochey. This goes down too easy. As this opens the mousse gets so refined. This is quite something. — 3 days ago
