Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

@Delectable Wine : This is the new Roy Piper Sanford & Benedict Pinot noir. I didn’t see it in the database.

After snagging one of these, I’ve been looking for a reason to open, so when a buddy asks, we opened a 2016 Piper cab next to it and enjoyed some beautiful wines from Roy.

I didn’t have the opportunity to decant ahead of time, but air is this wine’s friend right now. Poured half in to a decanter and consumed over two hours. The other half was left in bottle and consumed later in the evening.

Gorgeous translucent ruby in the glass. No dominant notes of oak or over-extraction. Bright floral notes alongside some citrus, herbs, spiced cranberries. Elegant yet commanding on the palate…the fruit has some pomegranate upfront before it turns darker in profile with black cherries providing a sweet crunch at the finish. Nervy acidity and excellent structure. Style wise, this leans toward a Cobb style but no whole cluster…loads of flavor and structure wrapped in a delicate and pretty profile.

The remaining wine from bottle later in the evening showed the citrus/pomegranate notes pick up with some black pepper and an earth/forest note reminiscent of certain OR Pinots. Definitely made in the Burgundian style Roy was going for…mission accomplished. Loads of upside.

Tre Vigne Barbera d'Asti 2021

Medium Ruby with aromas of fresh berry fruits, floral and sweet spice. On the palate this medium body wine shows flavors of juicy blueberry and blackberry with notes of herbs and vanilla spice. Dusty tannin structure, lively acidity, medium ending with crisp fruit finish. Nice value. Drink now, consistent, no aging benefit. — 5 days ago

Mushrooms and dried earth on the nose. Ripe red fruits, cherries and currants with hints of plum and desiccated violets. Wonderful acidity and long finish. — a month ago

Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus Grèves Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Brief notes. Showed better than the 2013 vintage we had in December 2021. Quite rich, sweet and fruit driven as well as spicy notes. Tasting more new world in this warm vintage. A good wine without being great. Have the last one in a couple of years ie 2026. — a month ago

Tre Vigne Dolcetto d'Alba 2021

On the nose, this is cherry and blueberry... On the palate the cherry is concentrated... The blueberry is also there... Savory, fatty... The tanning here is medium and chewy... The bright, fruity finish is just medium but the tannin lingers long... I quite like this tannin effect here. I paired this with crackers and an aged Gouda, but really I think this could have paired with a variety of foods. Decent acidity to hold its own against a variety of foods as long as they're kept simple. — 2 months ago
