Joie Anahata Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

Reddish in color with medium intensity.

Nose of ripe cherries, blueberries, plums, currants, light oak, dark chocolates, herbs, light vegetables, earth and black tea.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, light oak, spices, chocolates and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy pomegranates.

This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir from Oregon is very young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Tangy and earthy. Complex and nicely balanced. Feels more like Burgundy in style.

Already drinking nicely, and good right out of the bottle. Gets earthier and spicier as it opens up.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.

A good food wine too, and paired nicely with Spanish dry salami and crackers.

Pinot Noir grapes were aged in (30% new) French Oak barrels for 16 months. A small production of 3,150 bottles.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Célébration de la Vie Okanagan Valley Moscato Giallo 2020

This low-alcohol poundable has a great nose of orange blossom, but the palate is all lime and mineral. I didn't think much of it in the tasting room, but at home while canning jam in our steamy kitchen, theis really hit the spot. I actually quite like it — 5 years ago

Red and black fruits, mineral, fine tannin, med acidity. There’s some nice material here but this felt a bit closed. Will hold my remaining bottle for several years to see where it goes. — 7 years ago

A Noble Blend Okanagan Valley White Blend 2025

2025 vintage.
54 % Riesling, 37 % Gewurztraminer and 9 % Pinot Gris, Ehrenfelser and Oraniansteiner.
After the devastating winter freeze and loss of 2024 crop in Okanagan and Similkameen valleys, this vintage is a return to all British Columbia fruit. Aromatic and off-dry styled after Alsatian Edelzwicker.
Fresh and bright flavours of white peach, crisp, ripe Golden apples, ginger, lychee and lime.

Le Désir Sonoma County Cabernet Franc Blend 2013

I’ve had both La Muse and La Joie so I was happy to get to try Le Désir. I think I like this cab franc dominated blend the best. The nose is floral with green fresh notes. On the palate it’s rich, full bodied with a luxurious velvety texture. Dark fruit, bell pepper, spices, licorice with powdery tannins that starts to melt into the wine completely. Starting to hit its peak. — 3 years ago

Château La Conseillante

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Delectable Wine
9.7

The 1989 La Conseillante is one of the top performers in Pomerol and arguably now one of the best values. This bottle confirms that exuberance and joie-de-vivre on the nose, displaying the telltale crushed violets in bloom, with precious but controlled red and black fruit underneath. The palate is sumptuous from the start, presenting cashmere tannin and perhaps a little more glycerine in this bottle. The bravura finish leaves you grinning from ear to ear. Stunning, and it will remain on its plateau for many years. Tasted at the 1989 Bordeaux dinner at Hatched in London. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2019) — 7 years ago

Beau Joie Special Cuvée Brut Champagne Blend

Pale lemon color, light creamy mousse, tiny bubbles, with aromas of stone and citrus fruits, underlying toasty notes, blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. On the palate flavors of apple and peach with citrus zest, honeysuckle and chalky nuttiness. Lively acidity with good balance, long finish ending with fruit, biscuit and slight chalky notes. — 6 months ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Reticent. Dormant. Lots of mineral structure and earthy complexity. Youthful colour and aloofness on the palate. This lovely wine, which could use some joie-de-vivre, is full of class. Yet slightly hesitant to show it. — a year ago

Joie de Vivre Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

ESF
9.0

Nice, not great - stumbled on this in a small out of the way wine store, owner had personal friendship w/Jeff Gordon. Present very dark ruby, semi-opaque w/Old World nose of dusty cherry & rhubarb, musty, earthy, forest floor, some red berried fruit & currants, med bodied, smooth - believe this lost considerable weight over the years, more elegantly styled than sturdy & robust like many Napa cabs. Glad I got this on closeout pricing, pretty solid wine overall. — 4 years ago
