Wonderful dinner with Alex, Esma, Alex’s parents Andrew and Sylvia and Kris at Mott 32. Started with the char siu and we worried it was not going to be enough food but thanks to Kris’s expert ordering, we were fully satisfied. Slight hiccup with our hairy crab dumping order but we had it and enjoyed it. Everyone loved the fried black cod, pea shoots, and short rib. Brilliant and red-amber come in at just-translucent showing slightly piebald broiled beef fat foam and eyebrow-expressive, graphic lacing. Woody, with elm and holly and cherry wood, blood orange and ruby grapefruit too, a peppery, meaty complexity. This beer really reminds me of some British ale that I can’t quite pinpoint. Nuttiness. Shelled pecans and dusty walnut, roasted hazelnut, and cigarette paper. Bitterness ion bits defining turn that smacks of savory, chestnut, dry cigar, weak coffee, cinnamon. Interesting twists here, and low fruit and malt reliance. .

Amazing purchase after a day of riding the Rhône Valley wine region. Stopped at the Chateau and Cave for a last tasting. We were so impressed with the diversity of the wine and the Blends that we bought a bottle and enjoyed it ion the hotel terrace. What a treat! Gorgeous, flinty nose with hint of barnyard. Grippy tannins. Hint of coffee and soy sauce after 3 hours. Almost Valentini Cerasuolo-ish. Imperial Treasure Teochew Ion with Andrew Dutton.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There I was suggesting that Maume's Mazis-Chambertin 2011 was clearly not the pick from the domaine this vintage and lo and behold, it trumps all in a blind tasting. It has quite an earthy note on the nose with mint-tinged red fruit and black plum unfurling at its own leisurely pace in the glass. Later, this is joined by fennel and rosemary scents, creating an intriguing aromatics profile. The palate is medium-bodied, a touch foursquare on the entry, but with good substance, the texture grainy and quite peppery toward the finish. There is a lot going on in this grand cru and it will be fascinating to see how it develops and if it maintains this stellar quality. RP95, 2011, issued Nov 2014

Blend of Malbec Bonarda Sirah and Merlot, for the eyes deep rubi color of pig ion blood to deep purple, nice thick legs from glycerol. Nose Black Forest fruits and some fresh red ones some flavor a from the barrels as for chestnuts and coffee black chocolate and smoke.
