Sourced largely from Les Longbois in Volnay with additional parcels in Puligny-Montrachet, this shows lifted red cherry, strawberry, cinnamon, and a hint of stemmy spice. The palate is plush and slightly lean, with bright acidity and fine, chalky tannins. More about balance and transparency than generosity, finishing fresh and savory. — 6 months ago
A beautiful deep red fruited nose along with earth. On the palate the wine appears angry that I disturbed its sleep. Gives me the red fruit found on the nose along with plums and throws in some spice & minerals. The finish was as if the wine threw the blanket over itself and told me to turn off the light and get out of the room. — 9 months ago
Hubert Lignier's Clos de la Roche 2001 is an elegant beast—powerful in structure, layered and unfolding progressively, with fleshy texture, dark fruit, and black pepper intertwining. It's a very 'un-Roche' Roche. I've had AR's Roche and Dujac's Roche before, but neither had this kind of sheer power.
The 2014 DRC Richebourg exceeded expectations. I wasn't a big fan of the 2014 vintage before—it's a weaker year after all. But this one only started to open up after three hours of decanting, from 5 PM to 8 PM. I poured it three times over the evening, and each glass showed a different evolution:
· First glass: hawthorn and sour plum soup.
· Second glass: elegant rose perfume began to emerge, along with white pepper spice.
· Third glass: fully opened—red fruit, floral notes, and licorice intertwined, with a slender, lean, elegant frame—charming and refined, never cloying.
What a joyful evening. Both bottles were absolutely delightful! — 5 days ago

Better. Still on the lean side but none less beautiful. Clean. Pure. — 5 months ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of strawberry, raspberry, sous bois, red flowers, horse blanket, mushroom and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a fairly textbook example of the 2014 vintage with its rustic green streak coupled with Lignier’s charm. Drink now through 2029. — 8 months ago
This was a bright, crisp, medium to medium-high acid French white burgundy that was a little less mineral than Chablis. $375 at Joujou, I preferred the champagne for $325. — 3 months ago
30 years. Fresh and bright out of the gate. Some cherry, quite acidic. Chalky. So for a good hour I was thinking man - great vintage, site and wine maker but was not really convinced. 12 hours later the wine is still in the same spot now with some oxygen. Basically I expect old burghs to be unique - rare one offs with secondary flavor profiles (what was that?) - this was not it. Classic may be - but not more. I would argue drink this up more years will not make a difference. — 4 months ago

Last had 2 years ago and the extra time has been good to this. Really a lovely burgundy with some rotisserie chicken on the first snowy day of the season in New York. Red fruit, light earth, and minerality all in balance and expressing very nicely. Finishes with good acid and a real lift. Delicious. — 7 months ago

Medium dark rubi robe, with slight fading on the rims. Nose of dark cherries, crushed flowers, top soil and spices. The wine is still reserved in the mouth even after one hour uncorked, very long and complex, still marked by the whole grape vinification, but tannins are polished and velvety. Another 5 years in the cellar will for sure payoff. This is an incredible red burgundy and it does not get much better than that. Enthusiastically recommended. — 5 days ago
