Horner & De Wet Family Vintners

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

9.4

2nd Ribcap wine. Delicious!

2006 followed the grand 2005 vintage. It was overpriced based on 2005 & critically reviewed as a difficult vintage. I can tell you 06 was overpriced, but still a good to very good vintage depending on the region & producer.

The fruits are classic Bordeaux…nicely ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, very dark cherries, black plum, plum, mix of strawberries & red cherries. Wet, volcanic clay, lead pencil for days, slightly, dry tobacco, dark spices, mix of mostly dry & fresh herbs, clove, nutmeg, some cinnamon & vanillin, volcanic ash, used leather, sandalwood to cedar, forest floor w/ dry leaves, dry river stone, steeped, dark fruit tea, withering, slightly candied; dark, red florals with hints of violets, round, fresh, river stream acidy, a plush, round, elegant, nicely; tensioned, structured, balanced and elegant polished finish that last 90 seconds.

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a cloudy reddish/ brick rim.

Earthy nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black currants, plums, cooked cherries, earth, wet leaves, herbs, light vegetables, coffee, eucalyptus, mediterranean spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 28 year old is still drinking very nicely. A great Second Growth Bordeaux.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 45 minutes of airtime.

Complex and engaging. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. Aged in (65% new) French oak barrels.

13% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$200.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

This wine was love at first sniff. Medium garnet in color, a mesmerizing perfume of blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, sweet spice, wet tea bag and cigar box introduces the 2001 Château Ducru Beaucaillou. What an elegant, drop-dead gorgeous nose! Medium bodied and silky textured, the wine shines with remarkable balance and wonderful complexity. Drink now until 2030. — 2 years ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2007

Nose - wet clay pot, rose petals, leather, crayons . Main flavors - apricots, nectarines and plum and unripe cherry. Mid taste is sweeter and then finishes dry but not too dry. Very very nice! — a month ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

+2 hour decant(little fine/cloudy sediment). A brooding dark magenta color. On the nose: very aromatic notes..lots of blackberry, floral, pencil lead, wet forest floor, sweet oak. Taste: blackberry, cassis, bitter chocolate, herbs, pepper and a gravelly/new leather long finish with some still there kickin tannins. YUM! Gonna give my next bottle a few more years for a better score. — 4 months ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2018

Rose petals, cherry, wet moss, wild berries, subtle herbs (tarragon?), flirty hint of grape, bubblegum. And that signature wild, almost over the line E&M VA. Fine tannins, very pretty. Substantially more va in one of two bottles opened. — 7 months ago

Pinotman /// Andreas

Pinotman /// Andreas

Great wine yet on the edge. And once the VA blows off it is all good. The VA is actually Ethyl-acetate which humans can small in extrem small amounts. The whole VA acronym is a misnomer.

Domaine de la Pépière

Clos des Briords Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Muscadet Sèvre & Maine Sur Lie Melon de Bourgogne 2020

Muscadet doesn’t get much better than this. Lemon zest, tart green apple, tons of wet rock, screaming acidity. So good. — 3 months ago

Domaine Drouhin

Dundee Hills Pinot Noir

Medium Ruby with aromas red fruits, black tea and ample floral spice, aged in 20% new French oak for about 10 months. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry and plum with notes of tobacco, cedar, black pepper, tea and vanilla spice. Fine tannins, long finish, well balanced with acidity, ending with fruit, herb, spice and wet stone character. Very Nice! Aging well! — 3 months ago

Boysenberry, cherry, mulberry and violet, tobacco, cedar and wet cinnamon, leather, smoke, and bramble. Rich palate shows black cherry, black currant, tobacco, dark toast, espresso, darkest chocolate, cassis, and graphite. Absolutely perfect now and likely later too!

Domaine Leflaive

Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2002

Tasted blind. Light gold color. Fruit forward nose, almost tropical. Notes of green apple and orchard fruits, wet river stone, apricot, white flowers. Notably younger in its evolution than the first two bottles today, with a slightly lower heaviness and depth. I go with a guess of 2000 Leflaive Pucelles. Nice to see a young 02 Leflaive sans premox, with a lot of upside in front of it. 94+ — 2 years ago
