Gamble Family Vineyards

Family Home Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Cracked into a bottle from last visit to Napa. I am such a fan off all the Gamble family wines. Such a smooth bottle with a fantastic oaky finish. Tastes even better once it’s breathed a little. Serve me a bottle of this before I die and I’ll die with a smile on my face. — 3 months ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2018

Out to dinner with my parents last night and I was trying to find a wine that would make everyone happy. No it was not going to be the greatest pairing, but my objective was family happiness. I had previously opened a 2016 at home that they enjoyed, so I knew this would be a safe bet. The 2018 is drinking surprisingly well for being so young. While this was a nice bottle, it will be better with a few more years. If 2018 is your only option, I suggest a bit of time in the decanter.

Produttori del Barbaresco’s website offers a good bit of historical information on their wines — A cooperative founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares (250 acres) of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. They produce a blend harvested from multiple vineyards, but in great years they will produce 9 single vineyard wines. I still need to try one of those single vineyard wines.

Facts: 2016 Produttori del Barbaresco. 100% Nebbiolo. Bottling date was April 2021. 15% ABV, but despite the number it does not come across that high.

Rule #4 Sometimes wine pairing importance comes second. I have to remind myself that not everyone I share a bottle with is as obsessed about wine as I am (i.e. my parents) — they just want to enjoy our time together with a nice glass of wine.

Sbragia Family Vineyards

Home Ranch Chardonnay 2018

Medium lemon with aromas of stone and citrus fruits with floral and flinty notes. On the palate flavors of ripe apple and lemon citrus, oak and vanilla, smooth with a crisp texture, lively acidity. Medium+ finish ending with citrus fruit and sweet savory mineral character. — 3 years ago

La Clarine Farm

Home Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2009

Terrific red wine from the La Clarine Estate vineyard, reminds me a little of Domaine de Trevallon (Cab and Syrah, though here other grapes as well), big and rich still, showing just a tad of mature notes, long, persistent finish, hides its 14.5% ABV well, kudos to Hank!! — 3 months ago

@Tom Casagrande, in the early days of LCF, Hank would make 20-50 cases of this, I used to be able to get 3 bottles (I might have bought 6 a few times). I actually don’t know if Hank is making enough of this these past 10 or so years to sell it commercially, I know I have some 2011 (which I’ll report on soon), but not exactly sure the last vintage I was able to buy?!?!

Home Hill

Kelly's Reserve Tasmania Pinot Noir 2017

Rich and luscious - ripe red and black fruits. It’s a funny thing how full bodied this wine is which comes from one of the most southerly (cold) vineyards (Huon Valley Tasmania) in Australia. We visited there a few years ago and had lunch. Medium to full bodied with sweet black cherry flavours but I might have gotten the Food/wine match wrong - too floral and pretty perhaps to go with venison. I should have chosen Syrah or a GSM - an excellent wine nevertheless. — 7 months ago
