Lemon grass nose. Lemon, quince, grapefruit, lime, orange rind, and minerals on the palate. Medium minus alcohol and high acid. — 5 years ago
Surprisingly refreshing and by far better than any seltzer I’ve tasted #summerfun — 6 years ago
Happy Sauvignon Blanc Day to everyone and tonight I have opened the 2018 Mahi Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
On the nose there is good stone and citrus fruit, grapefruit, lime, white peach, mandarin orange, white flowers and wet river rock.
On the palate the stone and citrus fruits still come through, grapefruit, lime, nectarine, pear, lemongrass, celery, good minerality and wet concrete.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + to high electric acidity that moves seamlessly into a long crisp citrus finish with a mineral ending. Have a great weekend the best we can and please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 6 years ago
Doughy lees on the nose. Tart red fruit, ruby red grapefruit, with a lemon background on the palate. High acid lingers in the finish. — 7 years ago
I have enjoyed this producers vineyard over many vintage and this might be the best.
The 22 vintage is stunning and as good as it is, 23 might be better based on a somewhat limited exposure at this point.
The entry is glorious…such balance and wire to wire it doesn’t change much.
Green apple, perfect lemon & lime pulp into subtle candy, grapefruit, white stone fruit, kiwi, tropical melons, pineapple, cream reduction, saline, perfect sea fossils, fine powdery taut chalkiness, crisp volcanics, white spice, grey volcanic minerals, limestone marl, mix of fresh & dry stubble herbs, honeysuckle, light caramel, warm lightly done toast, yellow florals, spring flowers with greens, grand waterfall acidity, beautiful structure-tension, incredible balance with an elegant finish that lasts two-minutes and long sets on volcanic minerals and spice.
Decanted 1 hour.
When I first started buying this bottling, it was $50-$60, now $150. Might be my last bought. My white spend has a more limited range than my red. Don’t think I’m alone.

Kevin Judd handeling the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in his own way by natural fermentation on oak.
Pale to straw yellow.
Still fruity (pear and grapefruit) & herbal (asparagus and grass), but with added minerality (a hint of flint), butteryness and some earthyness that makes this SB surpass a regular Marlborough Sauvignon.
Medium to high acidity. Medium to long aftertaste. — 5 years ago
Barely any color at all. Strong aromas similar to a NZ sauv blanc. Peaches and grapefruit. Light bodied. Medium high acidity. Strong acid hits you on the finish. Good for a CA sauv blanc if looking for that NZ style. Seems like better value from NZ so probably wouldn’t buy again. — 6 years ago
High acid, tropical. Gooseberry, ripe mango, passion fruit, grapefruit, lemongrass, and jalapeño pepper. Great with vinegarettes and citrus prepared seafood. — 6 years ago
I was told that this is a Sauterne blend in reverse. Instead of 1/3 Sémillon and 2/3rds Sauvignon Blanc, it’s the other way around. And of course the fruit didn’t sit on the vine long enough for it to rot nobly. I admit that I didn’t much care for this wine on the first taste but it continues to grow on me. Grapefruit and neroli on the nose. Hints of vanilla on the front of the palate with soft tannins, which are both drowned out mid-palate with a strong minerality and astringent high notes. Lemon zest on the end — sour and bitter, but very refreshing! It develops a nice softness after the bottle is left open for a while.Initially I gave this an 8.9 but I’m moving it up to 9.1 on my second tasting. Too bad it’s not summer anymore. This is a perfect afternoon summer time wine. — 7 years ago
Tonight's wine is the 2018 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand.
The nose reveals aromas of lime, grass, melon, grapefruit, mandarin orange, orange peel and wet concrete.
On the palate there are notes of grapefruit, nectarine, passionfruit, lime and mlm limestone minerality.
This wine is medium bodied with a smooth rich balance and high acidity that moves right into a long clean, crisp, minerality finish. I am really liking these New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs and they don't disappoint. Let's have a great weekend this weekend and enjoy whatever wine or wines you decide to drink. Lets be safe and be kind to each other. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 7 years ago
Grapefruit, green apple, pear, lemon, and honeysuckle on the nose. Peach, honeydew melon, and hints of minerality on the palate. Refreshing, Crisp, and bright with full body and high acidity. 14% ABV. — 2 years ago
Over the last few years, I’ve grown quite fond of Raul Pérez’s wines. The challenge is, some of them can be rather elusive. “La Penitencia” is one of those wines. So I was pretty excited to try this. Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Wine pours deep ruby bordering purple and slightly turbid with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity. There does appear to be a small amount of fine sediment clinging to the side of the glass. On the nose, the wine is intense. There’s obvious presence of VA and overall, comes across natty; more than any other Raul Pérez wine I’ve had before. That being said, it is remarkably fresh with notes of cherry and blackberry; the pits, seeds, stems and all. There’s also spices, cinder block, and un-excavated basement. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+, bordering on high acid. Again, bright red and dark fruits along with pomegranate, grapefruit, and basil. The finish is a touch mousey with a biscuity sort of thing happening but it’s tolerable and I’m pretty sensitive. This would be too wild for many. Reminds me a bit of Fabio Gea’s “Onde Gravitational”. Plenty of life ahead for these. As it stands, I have another bottle and I won’t be in any particular rush to drink it. Lovely stuff. — 4 years ago
Grapefruit and high acidity, which rounds off nicely when paired with a sweet cheese (honey goat cheese in our case). — 6 years ago
Bright yellow hue. Aromas and flavors of cream, grapefruit, grass, lemon curd, minerals, orange blossom, and pear. Medium body and high acidity. Intense, aromatic nose with a soft, easygoing mouthfeel and a dry, mouthwatering finish. Solid Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. — 6 years ago
On this Sunday afternoon I have opened the 2018 Jules Taylor Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand.
On the nose there are pungent aromas, pink grapefruit, lime, kiwi fruit, green apple, white flowers and nice mineral notes.
The palate gives up notes that are tangy and citrus with lime, green apple, stone fruit, mango, passionfruit, a herbaceousness and minerality.
This wine is medium bodied that is zingy crisp with medium + to high acidity and a long crisp clean citrus finish. I hope everyone is well and getting along in this time of seclusion? This too will end and we will get back to a normal assemblance of life. Please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 6 years ago
Golden color. Medium body, completely dry and high acidity. Layers of citrus reminiscent of grapefruit, orange peel and underripe pineapple. Bitter notes of blanched almond or hazelnut. Like a leaner version of amontillado sherry. Probably not for everyone. It went very well with black cod and rockfish for dinner. — 7 years ago
Pale lemon-green with pronounced youthful aromas of blackcurrent leaf, cut grass, wet stone, grapefruit, passion fruit, gooseberry and lemon. Dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body with pronounced flavors of grapefruit, cheese, wet stone, nectarine, cut grass and gooseberry. Drink now, not suitable for further aging. Very good quality. Wonderful with seafood — 7 years ago
