Lazzarito Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Opened about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2017 “Lazzarito” pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe notes of mostly red fruit; Morello cherry, raspberry’s and absolutely loaded with alpine herbs, almost like Campari and roses. There is truffle, talcum powder, and some tar for good measure. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Among one of the better 2017 Barolo’s I’ve had. Drink now through 2042+. — 11 days ago

Even better on day 2! Let this breathe! Forest floor/tertiary notes, pine, cedar, cocoa, plum, sweet berries, I like the Campari note that someone noted... that sort of medicinal quality!
On the palate, stemmy, upfront tannins, smooths out into an etheral expression of tart forest berries, plums, some oak, coffee bean, cocoa nib, pine/rosemary, quite savoury.
This almost reminds me of something out of Italy!
Overall, a beautiful Loire red with lots to offer. Love the savoury characteristics! Cheers!

Aperitivo Red

Really great mixer for a Campari alternative. Less sweet, more herbaceous. Made in Bed Stuy. — 3 months ago

Loved this in a Negroni instead of Campari. Richer, less bitter. Delish!! — 3 years ago

Vibrant mouthfeel with dark cherry, blood orange and a hint of Campari. Big winner against the two later vintages. — 5 years ago

@Peter van den Besselaar try making a Too Soon cocktail with this stuff - a little lemon juice, Cynar, simple syrup and gin. Divine!

Not as bitter as Campari, not as sweet as Aperol. It makes an excellent spritz. — 2 years ago

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Drank beautifully. Red currant and a little Campari (although that could be from earlier in the night) with good mineral support. — 5 years ago
