Gran Toqui

Viña Bosconia Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

2010 vintage (half bottle). Upon opening, there was a split second hesitation as to whether the wine was skunked or not. Extremely earthy and funky nose though the taste and color assured that it was fine, though it surely needed a ton of time to come together. We enjoyed a Chenin Blanc while we waited for the Rioja. Revisiting the nose about 45 minutes later, it was clear the time alone improved it immensely. Alas, the classic notes of vanilla and oak and cherry that I so often associate with Rioja. Drinking it 20 minutes later over the next hour, the wine was showing incredibly well and so different from its previously unruly and spastic self. It was now much more tame and finessed, well integrated tannins yet still present, with nice acidity and a good amount of freshness. Incredibly enjoyable all on its own. A fun journey that had a rocky beginning but very rewarding end. — 3 days ago

Bodegas Muga

Gran Reserva Prado Enea Rioja Tempranillo 2015

2015 vintage. Hoo boy, is this delivering! Bigger tannins and more concentration throughout. Still a baby tho. Park it at a subterranean level in the cellar for a 15-20 spot. If you just gotta drink it in the next half-decade, you're best off decanting at lunchtime for dinnertime presentation. 5.1.24. — 2 months ago

Gran Reserva de la Familia Brut Nature Cava Macabeo-Xarel-lo-Parellada 2017

Made from Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada grapes, bright pale gold with a frothy creamy mousse, small plentiful bubbles with a steady stream. Aromas of apple and citrus with toasty notes. Well integrated, nice mouthfeel, elegant long finish. Great value as an exceptional alternative to French Champagne. — a month ago

Sounds great!

Bodegas Faustino

Gran Reserva Faustino I Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1970

Surprisingly fresh with a really pretty mulberry and black cherry nose. A blackcurrant confit center with hints of oak and a bit of musk. Stop a bit of hidden power but clear and precise. Very good — 20 days ago

Monte Real Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2009

Crazy to say but…too young! Balanced and dark but has yet to develop the spice rack subtleness and tannins can still evolve further — a month ago

Riserva Ducale Oro Gran Selezione Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2018

Not a typical Chianti IMO and not sure if it was doing a blind tastes test I would ever guess Chianti. That being said it’s a super drinkable wine that like most wines, gets better as it sits. Enjoyable at the first sip and even more so at the last! This might be a good introduction to Chianti for first-timers. — 2 months ago
