Giovanni Allegrini

Gianfranco Alessandria

San Giovanni Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Ruby with a bouquet of dark fruit, spices, leather and licorice. On the palate flavors of cherry and strawberry with notes of pepper, smoky tobacco, herbs and cacao. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins ending with smoky notes, cacao and earthy sweet notes. Just starting to drink now, but a few more years will benefit. — 4 days ago

Bricat Barolo Nebbiolo 2004

Excellent wine with some fruit mainly strawberries and some earthy elements. Very smooth and integrated with a long finish. Think it would have been a bit better with some time but it was opened and poured.

La Poja Monovitigno Corvina Veronese 2000

Exemplary aging — maintained balanced fruit, acidity, and tannin (although softer)
The juicy red fruits and dried herb flavors of this wine paired so nicely with our Italian meal.

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2019

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is youthfully understated, requiring coaxing to reveal its depths of dried black cherries, mocha and cloves, all lifted by a hint of fresh mint. This impresses with its blend of sweet spices, opulent ripe wild berry fruits and silken textures, all balanced by brisk acidity and a pleasantly bitter tinge of dark chocolate toward the close. This finishes classically dry with dramatic length and potency, leaving a coating of fine-grained tannins that saturates, promising many years of positive evolution. Allegrini knocked this one out of the park. Wow. (Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2024)
