Really nice cab. Opened it up yesterday but was way too tired to drink it. Tonight with pasta after the kids spring break it tasted great. Fruit forward but not overly jammy. Nice nose. 1 of CA's oldest wineries, Far Niente, founded 1885 by John Benson. Winery flourished until Prohibition, when it was abandoned & fell into complete disrepair. Stately stone shell of a winery purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel. A big wine! Tropical and stone fruit aromas with complex spice and oak notes. On the palate apple, peach and citrus flavors, creamy, with buttery toasty oak, fig/honey tones. Long finish ending with vibrant acidity & mineral character. Consistent. — a year ago

As others reviewers have said, this wine is consistently outstanding. It pours a deep purple. Wonderful flavors of berries and dried fruit. Balanced tannins and an exquisite finish. As with the other wine for my birthday, it may have overpowered my seafood pasta at Mangia Bene restaurant a little bit. But it was worth it because it was so fantastic. Bottle #2 from case and it has gained some structure and opened a bit in the last 1.5 years. Nose is great, reminds me a lot of last nights Pontet Canet on nose. Hint of tobacco, pencil leaf, red fruits currant, kirsch, and red berries. Great mouthfeel, great balance, and good structure. Looking forward to another in 2 years if I can wait! — 6 months ago
