Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Believe it or not, Fratelli Alessandria was the very first to commercially offer a single expression of Monvigliero (1978); three years before Comm. G.B. Burlotto. That being said, both have played a role in defining the style of this, most famous MGA in Verduno.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2010 Monvigliero pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of ripe and tart, mostly red and some dark fruit: wild forest strawberries, mixed brambles, Morello cherry, pomegranate, truffle, roses, dried green herbs, licorice, some tar, forest floor and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and slightly savory. I think this is in a really lovely spot and anyone who has multiples should try one during this phase of its evolution. That being said, this has a long life ahead. Drink now with patience through 2050+

Ginestra 'Vigna Casa Maté' Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Sourced from 65 year old vines, sitting in rich clay soils. Medium Ruby with complex aromas of berry fruits, oak and fresh floral scents. On the palate dried tart cherry, tobacco, licorice, espresso and fresh herbs give this full-body wine grace and elegance. Soft fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and earthy notes, well balanced, enjoyable now and has room to run over the next decade. Very Nice! — 3 months ago

Bussia Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

I sold Barolos and Barbarescos from this winery with the first importer I worked for back in the early 80s. It’s been in the decanter about an hour, and though the lightish color shows maturity, some fruit is emerging g to join with the intense mahogany furniture/old library scents. Incense too, along with faded rose petals. Very classic. In the mouth, it’s powerful and somewhat austere. Not a fruity wine. Still a fair amount of tannin present. The austerity and power will pair nicely with the braised oxtails (coda alla vaccinara) that are almost ready. — 10 days ago

Rüncot Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

Savoury yet ripe cherry notes. Great depth of flavour coming out after 18 years. A medium bodied palate with medium plus intensity. A trace of that elusive iron amongst the earthy notes. A brilliant wine - thoroughly enjoyed it. A pity that we have to wait 15 to 20 years for Barolos like this to be at their peak, but it is worth the wait. Runcot is only bottled in the best years. This is one of the 1001 Wines and one of the best reds I’ve had this year. — a month ago

On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe red fruit: Morello cherry, roses, licorice, tar, cigar box, Alpine herbs, menthol, truffle, and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long juicy and grippy. Certainly a wine in full stride right now. If you have some, open a bottle now and enjoy the benefits of this solar vintage. Enjoy the rest before 2041. — 3 months ago
