Field Stone Fruit Wines

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2004

First night open: 20 year old vintage— chocolate on the nose with a stone fruit finish. Tasted clean and complex with an almost immediate light evaporation in your mouth leaving you with the feeling of bubbles dissolving. Delicious. — 2 months ago

Domaine William Fèvre

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2020

Subdued bouquet in the nose that reveals balanced acidity, minerality, and lemon zest on the palette. Stone fruit and crisp Asian apple on the backend. — 5 months ago

Chateau Montelena

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2017

I haven’t had a lot of experience with Napa Valley Chardonnay but this was most enjoyable. Rich and mouth filling, creamy. Stone fruit and almonds. Barb said white flowers on the nose. Apparently this was picked early and malolactic fermentation was blocked. Oak influence is totally integrated - balanced. I paid $147 AUD in Brisbane in September 2021. A lot dearer than what you might pay in the States I would guess. — 8 months ago

It is those Aussie US import-export fees. We were going to ship some Standish back to the States from the property and when Standish called us and said the shipping/import fees were are much as the three bottles, we passed. They’re not that had to find here.

Penfolds

Bin 311 Tumbarumba Chardonnay 1954

Reductive smokey notes. Flint, honey, pear, and stone fruit. Not long or complex, but honest. For S$58 not great p/q — 5 months ago

Domaine Leflaive

Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2002

Tasted blind. Light gold color. Fruit forward nose, almost tropical. Notes of green apple and orchard fruits, wet river stone, apricot, white flowers. Notably younger in its evolution than the first two bottles today, with a slightly lower heaviness and depth. I go with a guess of 2000 Leflaive Pucelles. Nice to see a young 02 Leflaive sans premox, with a lot of upside in front of it. 94+ — 2 years ago

Trimbach

Cuvée Frédéric Emile Alsace Riesling 2010

Mid gold in colour. Aromatics of yellow peach and honeyed notes. No traces of petro chemical. Medium plus intensity of stone fruit and mineral on the palate. Great depth. One of the top Rieslings in Alsace and showing it in spades. A beautiful Riesling and probably at its peak. Will stay on this plateau through the 2020’s. Interestingly about 25% went through malolactic so this is a different style from the usual Cuvée Frederic Emile. Very fresh for a 14 year old Riesling but remaining fleshy and M plus bodied. — 4 months ago

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Meursault Chardonnay 2004

Taken to Selby's in Redwood City. Medium gold color. Heavy in the glass. Killer nose with notes of apricot, petrol, citrus, wet river stone and lots of tan spice. Palate staining in the mouth with a ton of acidity that is balanced against the rich fruit. Can't believe this is a Village wine. — 2 years ago
