1961 vintage. Ahoy there! Lower neck fill. Durand employed. Opened (not decanted) with plenty of cork splintering/crumbles despite the Durand and meticulous/slow movements. Cork stayed intact but just barely and about 80% saturated. Extensive (3-4 minutes) cleaning of the bottle lip and inch-deep, upper neck to remove fused cork residue. Tasted 45 mins, 2 hours, 4 hours and 6 hours after opening. Heavier body than expected given the producer. A bit of a slap in the face as it rolled in as medium/medium-heavy body which is hilarious. Nose initially a mysterious, century+ sitting room with plenty of decay, dust and past. Things shifted to soy/teriyaki sauce fairly shortly after with a little 5-10 minute fried chicken nose that vanished. Various (dark/semi-sweet) chocolates and cherry reduction sauce eventually emerged. A paced, harmonious narrative stayed constant throughout. Gorgeous experience. Didn't exactly diminish my impressions of H-B being the best first growth in BDX. It's generally the lightest and least-flashy. 1.23.26. — 5 months ago

Nose: chemical smell, mint, pretty floral smell
Taste is subtle but tannins start soft and then grow and grow… huge tannins, very astringent.
Really firm, punched in the face experience. Liked this a lot.

Mateo Sarah Anne visit and he’s a foodie and vino lover especially Champagne. Wow! A Blanc de Blanc with clean complex white floral nose laced just so with yeasty profile but not in your face like B-S. Dances on the palate and super long evolving finish. Yum! As you would expect from Manfred. After a while you just run out of superlatives and just sit there with a Syrah stained smile on your face. Rich dark fruit with beef blood smell (that term doesn’t do justice to how interesting and delicious the combination really is). Tremendous finish, dark color to the edge. Just a great wine experience. My only bottle. I have no clue how long this wine could go before peaking. — 8 years ago

Summery feeling Blanquette built on 90% Mauzac, 10% Chenin Blanc from 25 year old vines in Calce (Roussillon). There isnt an enormous amount of depth here, but the flavors are excellent. Honeycrisp apples, honeysuckle, freshly mown grass. Simultaneously dry and creamy. — 2 years ago
