Reaaaallly nice wine, complex but lean. Equally delicious before, and with, dinner. — 10 months ago

Clos Saint Michel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2019

Mousset family has managed Clos Saint Michel for more than 6 decades, in Southern Rhône they have been active in wine for Much longer. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits, herb and spicy notes, blend of 40% Grenache and 30% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, all aged in older barrels. On the palate flavors of black cherry and ripe blackberry with cigar box and black pepper spice. Big firm tannins, nicely integrated, good balanced, long finish with solid ending. — 2 years ago

Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2026

Maybe it bit too full bodied for my taste, but it easily balanced itself with acidity. A fine production. — 3 months ago

Les Bambins Saint Amour Gamay 2020

Lovely, classy Beaujolais village level gamay, 2020 vintage enjoying early in 2024.

Goes well with cheese and crackers and staying indoors on cold winter nights.

Les 1er Ponts Pinot Noir 2019

My notes were short on this. Quite natty (reduction). Red-fruited. Spice. Some underlying minerality and bright acidity. Good energy, but I didn’t linger much on this wine. There were better ones to drink on the table. — 4 months ago

Le Rouvre Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2018

Just what I want in a Crozes. So earthy and mineral on the nose. Just wafting out of the glass with dirty crushed granite and feral scents. Some rich blackberry fruit and dried beef too. Broad and very open on the palate. Rich savory flavors all over the place. Some tannin provides a bit of scaffolding, but this is all about now. (I sometimes refer to a good Crozes as “slutty” Syrah, but I probably should avoid terms that have historically been used disparagingly, even though I mean it in a good way!) — 5 months ago
