Happy New Year! 🍷

Perfect pairing w/ my Dutch oven braised short-ribs & horseradish mashed potatoes.

Dark currants, brambly blackberries, dark cherries, brilliant cherries, strawberries, iron pan, dry shale, dry herbs-sage lead, dry crushed rocks, limestone, volcanics, roasted chestnuts (a signature of this producer), some black coffee, tarriness, dry top soil, dark spices, some red to mid berry cola, red, dark flowers, violets, excellent, round acidity, balance for days, nice structure/tension with elegance that lands squarely on dry earthiness.

en Champs Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2020

A more robust Pinot. Low transparency. Good fruit with some Tannin present so will age and smooth out over time. April 2025. — 8 months ago

La Landonne Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2019

2019 vintage. Last tasted 3.8.25 (9.6) and 8.19.23 (9.5). Excellent fill and great cork. Decanted and tasted after 30 minutes. Small amount of chunky sed. Medium-heavy body but starting to slowly thin out. Excellent colo(u)r. Alongside the roasted nuts and smoked meats flavors, this drops a current cola-nut driven finish. Smooth and harmonious. Love this producer along with a nod to consumers/wine trade for keeping these ridiculous pricings down. 10.10.25. — 3 months ago

Domaine Rene Leclerc

Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2018

2018 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 10 mins and 45 mins. Light body. Initially reticent but started to emerge after quite a bit of decanter agitation. Still, a bit more on the delicate side with cinnamon, rhubarb, tree bark, spearmint and raspberry impressions. Tasting like it's in a period of transition but it fills you up to the brim, Jim. 05.09.25. — 8 months ago

Clos Mogador

Priorat Red Blend 2016

A dense bright ruby in colour. Initially vanilla/oak notes which blew off with time in decanter. Dense rich and brooding - not giving much aromatically. Tight and muscular. Behaves younger than 7 years. Made by the redoubtable Rene Barbier, one of the founders of the revitalised Priorat movement as shown in the excellent documentary “Dreaming of Wine”. Full bodied and flavoursome. Rich and herbal - predominantly ripe Garnacha grapes. Red and black fruits. Had a wonderful visit there last year with the family and an informative tour and tasting at Clos Mogador. I love the fact that they have kept their wines affordable unlike their Priorat colleagues Alvaro Palacios (L’Ermita) and Daphne Glorian (Clos Erasmus) whose wines are quite expensive. This Mogador is so not ready to drink! Needs time in the cellar. Disagree with Thomas Matthews Drinking window of 2019 to 2024. Personally I think this wine will cruise through to 2030. I will leave the last one for around another 4 years. — 2 years ago

Thanks Andrew. I’m a fan of the Priorat district and their wines. The whites from Clos Mogador (Nelin) are also fabulous. Not that far from Barcelona.
