Domaine Jean-Claude Marsanne

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

Love the unbridled bloodiness of Marsanne’s St. Jo’s. This is glorious. Olive, garrigue, lavender, blackberry, black cherry, Smokey, feral but so much olive. Unreal. And very aromatic now. Palate is so good and full of 2015 fruit but also insanely young and pretty closed. Serious granitic structure and very pure fruit and typical 2015 extraordinarily long finish. — 3 days ago

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1988

This bottle was in great shape. Still youthful fruit, with tar, mineral, touches of its age in the nuances. Wonderful refreshing finish- this was perfect with a dinner with earthy flavors. — 7 days ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Offerus Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

First introduction to the power of J.L. Chave. Dried blueberries and cherries fill the nose followed by a rush of pepper and freshly dried herbs, particularly thyme and rosemary. Dried cranberries and red currants lead the charge on the palate with smoked meat and the earthiness that I love from Rhône style wines right behind. Terrific mouthfeel with the right amount of tannins and acidity, and a long fruit forward finish. Chave’s Hermitage is a top dream wine for me, and this just adds fuel to the fire. — 13 days ago

I had an ‘11 Chave Hermitage a month or two ago and it was very impressive, even if obviously a baby.

Joseph Drouhin

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1959

A slightly stinky, tarry nose. Dark blue, tangy fruit. Some herbal notes. Ruby on the palate and very vivacious given the age. On the palate, delicate fruit, very pure and clear. And long. Great quality here. — 21 hours ago

Clos St. Denis Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011

🏅 Rating 94/100 (4,4🌟)

Morey St. Denis - Deep dive in 3 btls

Here comes the real stuff! Reserved at start, but top breed spotted right away. You can’t miss with it. It has pretty much of everything you expect from GC: depth of aromas, complexity, good concentration of fruits, multilayer & finesse.

‘11 is odd year, it drinks OK already, but this one will evolve w/ years. Drouhin sources fruits w/ low yield vines: 36hl/ha. Delicate work with oak (20% new 14-18mo). Delicious wine w/ long lasting finish.
