La Cadole Mâcon-Pierreclos Chardonnay 2021

Most Macon Chards I’ve had feel like a “ through the looking glass” experience— a few substantial layers removed from the “real” (ie Proper Burgundy) deal; but not this bottle. Velvety texture, full but delicate in the mouth; dandelions & spring grass field after a rain; on palate has this wonderful crushed minerality- almost volcanic, yellow fruits, & the 10 months in barrel are more like a caress than an announcement. Joyous juice, & so amped for the next bottles. — 10 days ago

He is god tier Macon. I am more proud of this discovery than almost any other wine as finding a Macon like this is almost impossible.

For $18, a great buy. Fresh, young, well balanced. Great acidity. Nothing complex. No overwhelming or particular fruit. But very nice and super easy to drink. Great weekday wine. — 2 years ago

Right at that premium burgundy level without being too “truffle” like. Incredible young wine — 5 years ago

Nose is lemony and mineral. Grassy notes as well and so clean. Like an air spray of Macon. Some deep green apple and pear scents as it airs. Palate is so juicy and my goodness is this mineral. Steely and intense with some green apple skin and terrific purity and freshness. Great concentration and so lean. This is the polar opposite of the “fat Macon.” Really chewy, dense and structured. Awesome sweet spring like fruit and a terrific finish. Wow this is getting very aromatically complex with some air. — a month ago

MÂCON-PIERRECLOS Chardonnay 2022

Fresh, crisp, airy, enticing!
Orchard apples, a touch of underripe apricot, white flowers and, underneath, crushed rock, mineral, salty, moreish.
On the palate this is so juicy and so clean with zippy, fresh acidity and a great mineral backbone. No oak whatsoever & none needed.
This has presence, depth & zing.
Lipsmacking delicious.

Mâcon-Pierreclos Chardonnay 2020

A great easy drinking Chardonnay. I normally don't like the maloactic acid of oaked Chardonnay but this doesn't really have it. It's slightly sweet but refreshing. It's has some minerality that cuts through any heft. It's a great drinking wine that would hold us to food. A great Chardonnay!

Color: A clear yellow the color of hay. It is slightly lighter than a typical oaked Chardonnay.

Aroma: Smells like Chardonnay without the maloacid creaminess. There's a slight sweetness, but mostly refreshing with some heft.

Taste: like lovely light Chardonnay with some delicious refreshing sweetness. It's medium body without the heavy, creamy oaked flavors. There are some apple and pear notes that's slightly spiced.

It's light with some minerality making it  easy to drink. It has some heft so it can also stand up to food but it's light that it's great on its own.

Lieu Secret Mâcon Pierreclos Chardonnay 2020

My white of the night, even though my guess for it as a blind missed the mark. Once more, the influence of sight led me astray, with the exposed Stelvin cap popping out of the blind sleeve leading me to identify it as an Australian Chardonnay. In my defense, the ripeness of the fruit does fit the guess. If anything, it just reaffirms my view that global warming (and the homogenisation of styles) has been making it harder and harder to discern new and old world wines as of late. That topic aside, this wine was just so digestible. Long with strong salinity, laser-like acidity, and luscious mouthfeel. There’s a mix ripe stone and zesty citrus fruits here, along with nutty, woody, and spicy nuances. The only element that irks me is a touch of muskiness which I attribute to some level of premox. Other than that, there’s richness, intensity, and precision here - all the hallmarks of a great wine. Delicious, and finished in no time at all. — 3 years ago
