🍷 Personal Pick
A perfect “anytime Chardonnay”, easy to enjoy, easy to pair, and a reminder that not every Burgundy needs to be complex to be satisfying. — 3 months ago
Deep Ruby with aromas of rich berry fruit, floral and complex spice, blend of 84% Cab Sauvignon, 13% Merlot & 3% Petite Verdot. On the palate flavors of blackberry and blueberry with floral spice, vanilla, integrated toasty oak and earthy cinnamon. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice, vanilla oak and earthy notes, good now and will still get better, small production! A nice char broiled fillet mignon will go well. — 2 years ago

On the palate flavors of blackberry and blueberry with floral spice, warm vanilla oak and earthy cinnamon. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice, vanilla oak and soft earthy notes, will still develop. A nice fillet mignon with mushroom gravy will go well. — 3 years ago
Boxing Day 2022 at OKH. Honeyed nose. Complex wine that’s rich, mineral, lively, with hints of tropical fruits.
100% Sauvignon Blanc from approximately 60-year-old vines grown on Turonian limestone (same terroir as La Perlée). The wine is labelled as a Vin de France as the Saumur appellation does not accept this grape variety. Fermented in concrete tanks, then aged in barrels and demi muids for 12 months in this vintage, 6 months shorter than usual.
“A rich, expansive expression of Sauvignon Blanc. With oxygen – more time in bottle or in a decanter is essential - it opens up to a wonderful honeyed nose, with a gourmet nose of ripe, tropical fruit and roasted apple. On the palate, the same luscious fruit profile is accompanied by a smooth, mouth-coating texture. This is impeccably balanced by minerality and lively acidity. Not your typical Sauvignon Blanc, but delicious nonetheless.” AC — 4 years ago

When I’m not drinking a Napa Cab, and I’m having a fillet mignon, I reach for a Jordon. Blend of 87% Cab Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot & 1% Malbec, aged 13 months in 100% French oak (35% new). Deep Ruby red color with aromas of red fruit, floral and an array of herb spices. On the palate flavors of blackberry and raspberry with oak, vanilla spice, leather and cacao notes. Rich fine tannins, well balanced and integrated with fruit and oak. Very Nice! Will age well. Just had this at a chophouse, Nice! — a month ago
Lemon, pear, brioche, and a touch of limestone. Crisp and fresh. — a year ago

On the palate flavors of blackberry and blueberry with floral spice, warm integrated vanilla oak and earthy cinnamon. Deep Ruby with aromas of rich berry fruit, floral and complex spice, 84% Cab Sauvignon, 10% Merlot & 3% of each Cabernet Franc & Petite Verdot. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry and blueberry with floral spice, warm integrated vanilla oak and earthy cinnamon. Originally a blend of single vineyards, including 50% out of Martha's Vineyard, the 2017 Lot C-91 is for borderline lots that don't quite make the single-vineyard bottlings. Deep Ruby, aromas of berry fruits, earthy oak & floral spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with hints of cacao, licorice and leather. Fine dusty tannins, good acidity, well balanced, ending with fruit and savory earthy mineral notes. Nice! Grab a Filet Mignon! — 3 years ago
I just love this producer. Every single one of these wines are brilliant, sharp, and laser focused. Really nice effervescence and soft, tiny bubbles. The nose is immaculate with floral accents immediately. Red currants and nectarines along with hot buttered brioche fresh out of the oven. As the wine warms, the red fruit aromas really begin to shine through.
Natural, organic, biodynamic and it shows. A superbly crafted wine that truly speaks of the terroir and the winemaker. Another one of these Meunier Masters that’s truly changing the game. 100% Pinot Meunier from 40 year old vines in Festigny. A combination of the 2016 and 2017 vintages with no added dosage for purity and clarity.
Joy in the mouth with insane acidity and balance. This always takes a little time to really open up but when it does you’ll find apple cinnamon bread and red apples. Just a small touch of cherry and cream along with lemons. For an “entry level” bottle this really cannot be beat. But as many of these as you can, just leave me some too. — 4 years ago
A delicious left bank Bordeaux which greatly beneifted from a 60+ minute decant. The nose presents fig jam & blueberry along with notes of anise, cocoa, and pencil lead. The palate is impressively well balanced with flavors of blueberry and blackberry along with tertiary notes of sage & leather along with well integrated tannins and a bright acidity. Paired equally well with both filet mignon on day 1 & burgers on day 2! ($33) [5/27/22] — 4 years ago
Ropiteau Frères – Meursault – 2023
Meursault AOP – Côte de Beaune – Burgundy – France 🇫🇷
Overview
A classic expression of Meursault Chardonnay, showcasing the richer, broader style of the Côte de Beaune. The 2023 vintage leans into ripeness and texture while maintaining balance, delivering a layered and refined interpretation of this iconic village.
Aromas & Flavors
Stone fruit leads the profile, ripe peach and apricot, supported by baked apple and subtle citrus. Notes of toasted hazelnut, light vanilla, and a gentle touch of oak add complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Mouthfeel
Medium to full-bodied with a broader, more enveloping texture. Creamy yet balanced by fresh acidity, creating a harmonious and polished palate. The finish is smooth, layered, and persistent.
Food Pairings
Lobster, scallops, roasted chicken, creamy pasta, or mushroom-based dishes. Also shines with richer seafood preparations.
Verdict
A sophisticated and well-balanced Meursault that captures the essence of Côte de Beaune richness, textured, layered, and quietly complex. Elegant without being heavy.
Did You Know?
Meursault is famous for its nutty, buttery nuances, often enhanced by lees aging and oak influence, yet the best examples, like this, keep everything in balance rather than leaning too rich.
🍷 Personal Pick
A beautiful step up in texture and complexity, when I want Chardonnay with depth, presence, and that unmistakable Burgundy signature. — 2 months ago
93 that is beginning to lean into 94. This 14 shows nice evolution but still needs 2-3 years before it hits the beginnings of its full stride.
This 2014 “The Sisters” is rich, lush & ruby fruits of; blackberries, dark plum that stretches into pudding, dark cherries, black raspberries, some boysenberries. Dark chocolate cake with buttercream frosting, mocha powder notes, melted, salted caramel, mid berry cola, light; clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanillin, dark, rich, sweet earth with dry leaves, some dry herbs, dark spice w/ some palate heat, limestone powder, dry stone, soft leather & slightly dryish tobacco, sandalwood to barrel shavings, hints of lead pencil, touch of dry stems, fresh & slightly withering flowers that are; dark, red with lavender framed in liquid violets, excellent round acidity and a very well balanced, mid structured & tensioned finish that is elegantly polished and lasts a little more than a minute.
Paired with an Allen Brother’s Filet Mignon. A good, well aged Napa Cabernet works well with a less/near no fat cut of meat.

From the Far Niente winery. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits with floral spice and oaky notes. On the palate flavors of raspberry, blackberry and red plum with licorice, vanilla, leather and espresso. Tannins are fine, a bit tight, long finish ending with fruit, toasty cedar and earthy spice. Enjoyable now but a few years will reward. Pair this with a fillet mignon with a Cabernet sauce. — 3 years ago
A blend of grapes from the Montagne de Reims and the Côtes des Blancs, medium lemon color, aromas of stone and citrus fruits with yeasty notes, significant Pinot Noir in blend. On the palate flavors of apple and pear with lemon citrus zest and bread notes. Fine bubbles, light mousse, medium finish ending with fruit, citrus and yeasty biscuit character. Pair this with shrimp cocktail.

Just stop and look at this thing. Look how gorgeous it is. It’s so pretty I almost don’t want to drink it. Almost. Beautiful effervescence and an instant burst of fresh fruit aromas. Strawberries and cream with raspberry jam. Lychee and dried herbs, mild spice and a fair bit of kumquat for good measure.
One of the Masters of Meunier and it shows. It always shows. Brilliant acidity though understated compared to his wines with lower dosages. 100% Pinot Meunier from Festigny and full of unique personality and character. 50/50 from the 2017 and 2018 vintages, this is youthful and fresh with lively minerality. Very lean and mean while still remaining generous.
On the palate, this distinguishes itself from other rosé bubbles. The antithesis of a lifeless, limp, and limpid wine. Thrilling in the mouth, the red fruits announce their presence. Red cherries and orange slices. A rumor of smoke and the whisper of tobacco. A long, magnanimous finish that truly leaves you wanting. I’ll drink another bottle just because. — 4 years ago

Paul T, Missing My Beautiful Wife 24/7
I think you’ve had its cousin, the Fillet Mignon 🤷🏼♂️The last of 3 bottles I bought as futures in 2007 for $22 each - quite a “deal” for a Michel Rolland consulted wine. It definitely bears his international, point-chasing style, being riper than you’d expect from Bordeaux and favoring richness and intensity over elegance and finesse. Although I think it would’ve been a bit better a few years ago when the fruit was brighter rather than slightly raisin-y, it’s holding up, in the way well-made Napa Cabs of the showier ilk do after a decade plus. Neither as intense as those wines, or as distinct and balanced as the best Bordeaux, it falls into a weird middle ground that probably won’t please most people but hits my palate just fine. A “win” for a Monday night with a pan seared filet mignon. — 5 years ago

Quite frankly, for the money? White generic Burgundy at 15€? Show me a better one. Fine apple and yeasty butter notes, a bit of white bones fruit, quince, peer, medium bodied and high acid. And it shows the place — 20 hours ago
