Bodega Garzon

Reserva Cabernet Franc 2024

Had at Tin 202. Blackberry, plum, bell pepper, tobacco, granite. Fine tannin, bright acid, restrained oak. Single-vineyard, decomposed-ballast soils, cool maritime. Lean red meat's best friend. Drink through 2030. — 2 months ago

Pisano

Río de Los Pájaros Reserve Progreso Torrontés 2020

Star bright yellow gold. Inviting nose of earthy lemon and marzipan. Firm, zingy acidity from entry to finish on the medium full palate which yields lemon zest, concrete block, and citrus rind. Finish is moderate and lemony. This full-bodied style of Torrontes is an excellent foil for hearty seafood or pork dishes: a perfect white counterpart to Uruguay’s signature red variety, Tannat. Drink now through 2025 or a little beyond. — 4 years ago

Estival Atlàntida White Blend 2020

Uruguay, eh? And 5 years of bottle conditioning has given this blend a subtle Lemon Pledge odor (benzene aromas) and a nice, thick but not quite unctuous mouth feel. The 30% Chardonnay keeps it fresh and a little bit lively. Also some of those tropical fruit notes that I have picked out in Brazilian chardonnays.
Interesting enough to pick up a bottle. The family's history is from Piedmont, 2nd and 3rd generation now growing 30 acres (or was it hectares?) of estate grapes.

Pisano

Cisplatino Tannat-Merlot Blend 2021

Very happy with my wine purchase. Notes of sweet black cherry, it's really delightful, and lightly herby/floral on the nose with a bite of acidity

Initially it's very soft on the palate with undertones of cherry and blackberry. It's followed by a warm, rounded tannic body that continues to carry the cherry throughout. Ends very gently with a more berry/herby aftertaste with notes of unknown herbs

Viñedo de los Vientos

Atlàntida Tannat 2015

Inky and dark. Needs at least an hour to open up. Rich black fruit, chocolate, mocha, perhaps subtle vegetal note. Grippy but not overwhelmingly tannic. Good structure with high acid. Very good now and probably for at least a few years. — 7 years ago

Bodega Garzon

Reserva Maldonado Tannat 2023

Clear, deep ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced intensity primary and secondary aromas of plum, cassis, and smoke; on the palate, it's dry with medium acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body, and pronounced intensity flavors of black cardamom, crushed gravel, and black olives. Definitely needs to breath. — 5 months ago

Reserva Albariño 2024

Pale lemon in color with a light golden hue.

Light nose of citrus fruits and minerals.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with mild complexity.

Showing lemons, red and green apples, grapefruits, herbs and spices.

Medium length on the finish with limes and grapefruits.

This Albariño from Uruguay is drinking like an Italian Pinot Grigio. Interesting stuff.

Wine Spectator 89 points. Wine Enthusiasts 91 points.

Easy drinking, and good by itself or with food.

13% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$20.
