Almond, cherry, and a bit of a mineral thing I can't place. A rather typical nose, rather intense. The palate is a model of balance: a wonderful sour cherry radiates throughout the entire palate. A good width with a thick matter, especially on the sides. A very smooth mouthfeel which reminds me of velvet. Some sweetness too, especially in mid palate, just before some drying yet gentle tannins which kick off a very fruity finish with those almond and sour cherry notes. A slight bitterness can be found in the end too. This is a good effort, I like it! — 2 days ago
Badia a Coltibuono, or "The Abbey of good harvest," lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, between Florence and Siena. The Abbey is approximately 2000 years old. Ruby with aromas of black fruit and earthy spice nose. On the palate blackberry and cherry with savory tannins, good balance, noting black pepper and cacao. Medium finish ending with earthy mineral notes. Good now only short term aging benefit. — 12 days ago
The 2015 Fontodi Chianti Classico is an over-performer in every possible way, showing masses of black cherry and raspberry with dusty minerals, hints of cedar and new leather. There’s a cool-toned precision beneath it’s warm vintage fruit, with grippy tannins which quickly firm up the experience, while zesty acids tug at the cheeks. A minute later and I can still feel it’s youthful poise, along with lingering tart berries and hints of spice. #fontodi #chianticlassico #sangiovese #tuscanwine — 6 days ago
The 2009 Rocca di Montegrossi San Marcellino is showing significantly more depth, yet also freshness than the last time I tasted it, with balsamic tinged black cherry, giving way to Asian spice, wild herbs, hints of animal musk and brown sauce (think sauerbraten). Velvety textures flood the palate, showing notable savoriness, as mineral-infused dark red fruits are energized by vibrant acidity with a hint of orange citrus that pops right toward the close. The finish is long, showing adolescent tannins, which provide just enough tension, as it tapers off to notes of roasted plum, hints of tobacco and sage. It does show a bit more advanced than I’d expect, but this is a far superior bottle over the last one I tasted. Bravo. #chianticlassic #chianti #tuscanwine #italy — 16 days ago
“In the glass, the wine has a dark oxblood red color, nearly opaque at the center, with flashes of bright crimson at the edge. The nose unfurls with aromas of black currants, amarena cherries, incense, and rosemary moving in and out of the foreground, sometimes alternating with fresh white tobacco, dark chocolate, coffee, and eucalyptus as the nose evolves in the glass.
On the palate, the wine is spectacular: juicy and opulent, with a dense sweet core of brambly black fruit seasoned with crushed peppercorns, eucalyptus, and mint, all perfectly framed in sleek, graceful, micro fine-grained tannins.” — Moore Brothers Wine Co., where we bought this excellent Chianti in May 2020 — 12 hours ago
100% Sangiovese, aged for 12 months on oak!! Medium Ruby with aromas of red berry fruits. On the palate the fruit forward wine has flavors of cherry and plums, currant like with slight vanilla notes. Tannins are firm with bright acidity noted. Long finish, overall good value for this Chianti. Went great with a puttanesca pasta (my recipe). Can benefit from short term aging. — 7 days ago
Made Marinara today. This was the perfect companion. This is open for business on the pop. Almost all Sangiovese with just 5% Cabernet. Dark plums & firm tannins with some smoky aromatics make this inviting and texturally alluring. Excellent Chianti. — 7 days ago
