Medium light ruby , quite wide light ruby rim . On the nose shows good complexity with sous bois , truffle , cherry and raspberry. On the palate this is again more tertiary in character , with those cherry fruits complementing the earthy sous bois notes . With time this shows a mineral , stony undertow , but stays fresh and vital , with those cherry and raspberry notes . Very fine , ripe but grippy tannins . Fresh acidity and good balance , good velvety mouthfeel . This is great now though improves with time in the glass , so there is absolutely no rush here , from now and over the next 10 years perhaps. I am seldom dumbfounded when it comes to wine. So, I appreciate it when that happens.

This 1990 La Grande Dame was amazing and so fresh. Full disclosure, I am not normally impressed by this producer and this cuvée. Unusual for a champagne of 35 yrs to be so fresh in my experience from inception. So much so, if poured blind many would call it N/V or a fairly recent vintage. The color was even palish straw. Mags were brought from their Champagne House.

Excellent with the dessert of the evening, “Lemon Meringue Pie Cookie.”

Enjoyed at the 2026 “From Cellar Event” Pebble Beach Food and Wine.

Very pretty color of peach with a salmon hue.

Strong nose of apples, citrus, peaches, yeast, light bread and minerals.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and tiny bubbles.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, over ripen strawberries, apples, limes, yeast, sea salt, brioche, spices, minerals, light earth and cardamom.

Long spicy finish with limes and grapefruits.

This 14 year old Rosé Champagne is drinking beautifully already, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Elegant, spicy and rich. Fruity and nicely balanced, complex and engaging.

Wine Spectator 96 points. Wine Advocate 95 points.

Good right out of the bottle, and better when not too cold.

A great sipping wine that paired beautifully with my Tuna Avocado Tartare.

A blend of 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay, with 5% red wine. Disgorged in 2020.

12% alcohol by volume.

Soms heb je zo’n glas waar alles samenkomt.

En wát een wijn is dit weer zeg, zo blij met mijn geduld 😃

Alles waar je op hoopt bij rijping, gebeurt hier. De spanning is er nog, maar nu verweven met rijp fruit, een bijna wasachtige textuur en die zilt-minerale diepgang die maar blijft doorgaan. Dit is geen frisse, strakke Sauvignon Blanc, dit is gelaagd, complex en serieus indrukwekkend.

Het mooiste?
Dit bevestigt precies waarom geduld loont. Deze wijn hééft tijd nodig. En als je ‘m dat geeft, krijg je iets terug dat echt buitencategorie is.

Ik zeg het niet snel, maar: dit is echt mijn wijn. En dat terwijl ik normaal geen uitgesproken liefhebber ben van deze druif.

Maar dit… dit is gewoon geniaal. 🍷
