Cuvée Zaccharie Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2016

Getting a bit deeper into Gamay because it’s accessible, affordable, can be complex, and is altogether pretty easy. And this one is top notch. — 12 days ago

Les Griottes de Brulhié Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2016

Superb! Nose jumps out with tangy, tiny berries, loads of crushed granite, and a feral note. You can smell the acids! Intense and vigorous in the mouth. Lean-ish but so flavorful. Finish is so long and fresh and dripping with crushed rocks. My first of many 16s from this great producer. — 8 months ago

"Reverdon" Brouilly Gamay 2017

Medium ruby; intense candied cherry and black cherry, ripe watermelon and strawberry, subtle mineral and oak. Dry, High acid, medium tannin, very ripe and soft, medium plus alcohol (you can feel it), flavors match with more oak present with some straight wood (soft and integrated) and spice and some bramble and effervescent herbal quality. Medium plus finish. Very balanced, not too complex but total clarity of flavor and concentrated. Outstanding. — 7 days ago

Beaujolais Rose Gamay 2018

Somehow I hoped this would unknit how sewn into Beaujolais I am. Nope. I’m knotted up with these wines as ever and damn I’m claustrophobic but these s-wine-ters (aka wine sweaters can we make this a thing) have room to breath. All of which to say is this has a happy friendliness of a buddy you spend every weekend with. It is complex (fruits! acid! honeysuckle blossomfun!) and has a sense of dry wit (acid cutting, bone dry stone, sullen but no it’s just serious texture) to cut through anyone’s pretense. But it feels welcoming and warm. And full. And will let you lay your head on its bosom OR maybe it is just a sophisticated warm knit to keep that bosom both warm and savvy. All the same it has acid, ripe fruit and warming fruit to make it a winter-tastic cold rosé I’ll keep trying every year — a month ago

Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2010

From a double-magnum on New Year’s Eve Vibrant youth full color with nary a sign of age. Blueberry, black raspberry and black cherry fruit that is still very primary. Great graphite accents with a hints of pepper and nutmeg. Lush and textured palate with berry fruit tones, round tannins that provide structure but never intrude. Acidity is bright adding freshness to the fruit. I would have expected a bit more development even with the bottle size. Superb with rabbit braised with white wine and shallots and beef daube. — a month ago

Cuvée Godefroy Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2017

Darker more animal nose. More brooding. Smokey, blackberry velvet. Soil tones. Dark herbs. Deep, juicy and complex with amazing finesse and such richness. But fresh as a daisy and so so pure. Wow. Amazing minerality and granite . So clean for such a big boy. Sappy and so juicy and more obvious structure and tannin than La Chapelle. Stunning wine. Both are amazing but I prefer Godefroy as it’s deep and dark yet so elegant. — 7 months ago
